The first time I visited here, my life changed greatly, forever.
July 4th, 2024
I was in an argument with my wife, and I drove away angry, leaving her and our cat here at Shoal Creek, (we had lost our house and living out of the car) my wifes cat, which she had for nine years, ran off into the wild buffalo pen here, never to be seen again.
A social worker at the neighboring golf course picked up my wife, and, she left me for him, for a few months.
It wasn't until this day that changed my life forever, that I realized, I needed to change my own life and the way I was living, I got clean from drugs, and started doing things right, My wife also got clean from drugs, and realized, this rich guy was a terrible person.
We are now both clean and sober and living productive healthy lives, but, the cat is gone forever, maybe still somewhere around Shoal Creek, a place I will NEVER forget.
Great living history museum. Go check it out, maybe it will...

I think it would be very cool to go to on a day when everything is open and they have their demonstrations unfortunately I missed that, however I will say I drove half an hour out of my way before leaving town for a 3-hour drive to go see this and I do not regret it at all. And also worth mentioning they do have handicap accessible trails which I thought was pretty neat as well and they also have...
Read moreTook my kiddos and two of our neighborhood kiddos to check out Dhoal Creek strictly to see the buffalo.
It's free to walk in. This was tricky because the entrance is a side ramp that is easy to miss, especially with 7 kids in the vehicle. Good thing we caught someone closing the gate and asked.
The kids had such an amazing time. We were only there for 30 minutes, but we could have at least spent another 1 hour there. We have ages 16 to 9, and everyone enjoyed themselves. Even the 16 year old who didn't want to join to begin with.
When we first arrived, the buffalo weren't anywhere in sight. They slowly came up to greet the kids. It was amazing. Can't wait to go back!
Totally recommend. We arrived around 130pm. Did not cost anything to walk in and see...
