I use to love playing this course. It is a good beginner course without much hazard. Not a lot to think about on your shots, you just line up and hit it. I think thereâs only two bunkers on the entire course. But Hodge has gone a direction that makes it hard for me to justify going there.
The two main reasons are the price and rate of play. In my opinion this course isnât worth $50 a round. The course conditions arenât the worst Iâve seen but there are plenty of dead/mud spots. The native and rough seem to be the same thing is some areas. The carts seem old and worn out. Overall the course leaves a lot to be desired for that price especially with so many other options that arenât that far of a drive from there.
As for the rate of play⌠If you donât mind playing 5 hour rounds of golf then this one might not bother you but every time I play there I am left wanting to pull my hair out. I spend far more time sitting in my cart waiting to hit than I do thinking about my shots and actually hitting them. There is zero and I mean absolutely zero enforcement on rate of play. Theyâll have a staff member driving around the course on a cart but I donât know exactly what they do. And I refrain from calling them a Marshall because they donât push people on rate of play. It gets back logged and then thatâs just the day. One slow group at 7 am can ruin the entire day. And Iâve heard the same excuse multiple times, âoh every hole has someone on it, weâre just real busy todayâ yet you donât have this issue at every other course that is busy.
I personally just have a tough time justifying spending $50 for a round at hodge when I can pay $5 more for an online rate for Shoal that is less than a mile down the road and has far superior course conditions and rate of play. I know hodge is a course that is more catered to retired people but if they could figure out the rate of play issue and a slightly cheaper rate I would probably have a much different opinion on them. I will say that the staff has always been friendly so I have no gripe with them on...

We took our team out to Hodge Park for a company outing. We arrived early for our 8:20 tee time, and there was almost no waiting behind other groups during the front 9. The course was in great shape, and very fun to play. At the turn, we visited the clubhouse to enjoy some shaboingboings (not sure how to spell it) and they hit the spot. We also got a cooler of beers, and the cashier did not even make us give a security deposit. It should be noted that we intended to sneak in our own drinks (hey youâre not perfect either pal đ), but we would have felt guilty deceiving such kind people.
The player assistants and course managers did everything in their power to keep up the pace of play, which was greatly appreciated. By the time we started the back 9, it was clear the course had become quite busy. This was not an issue because of the staffâs commitment to player experience.
From intermediate to experienced, this course is great for all. We thoroughly enjoyed the wide fairways, well maintained greens, beautiful scenery, and the juicy, filling sheboingboings (sorry I still donât know how to spell it itâs...
Read moreNot worth the money. $50 for a short, average play course in November is robbery. No drink cart, no ball washers, fairways are brown, and carts have to be returned by 4:45, but âitâs not the off season, so our pricing wonât change.â
Even if youâre here in season, Kansas City has plenty of other better options. Especially for your money. This is not a course I would recommend, unless they lower their prices or youâre playing for free.
3 stars because if you have nowhere else to play, the course is absolutely playable but it is also absurdly overpriced.
*In season edit: course is a fun play and the greenery really helps the atmosphere. Staff is very friendly. Honest opinion is there are other courses in KC I prefer but thereâs nothing wrong with this one. Iâd happily pay $50 while the...
