It seems allright. But like it's kind of boring, history is not boring I'll tell you that. The Museum's kind of messy. Like not well organized and long. Today is history for the future, now is history. Show how the Ojibwe culture evolved and what is it now what's changed?!? Like a progression. From A to B. I went there, a White woman showed me around. The people of this land should be sharing it, not others for them. Make YouTube videos, have elders or Real Members talk about stories and post them on YouTube. Advertise the Museum on YouTube add more to it. Let me tell you one thing North and South America 11,000+ years ago was such an amazing place. There were Mammoths 2 species. American Camels, American lions, American Cheetahs. Sabertoothed cats 3 species. American Horses!! NativeAmericans saw lived and interacted WITH THEM. Show pictures and illustrations of them! There were alot more animals than that, just Google Americans Pleistocene Megafauna. How did the Ojibwe land here who are they're descendants, explain that with stories passed down. Also do DNA tests factual evidence who in the old world (Asia) they came from, and or are closely related to. Muesums should enlighten people, teach us, but make it bearable.
Yeah that's what I have to say...
Read moreThis is a favorite destination when we visit our family in Minnesota! Our recent visit included 6 kids ages 5-10 and one senior.
Upon entering, the main room is bright, clean, and colorful. Our kiddos instantly gravitated to the craft and fun learning activities in the huge room. Thank you for getting their minds engaged instantly.
We spent about an hour at the museum and really loved the four seasons room! The docent volunteers were knowledgable and great advocates for their respective cultures. I was honored to bring my kids to learn at such a great venue.
The gift shop was nice, too. The restored building was beautiful! The kids did a good job of gravitating toward items that were specific for their age. The native pride and native-made items were refreshing to see.
Overall, 10/10. Although we won't visit every year that we visit due to the distance from our MN relatives, it's definitely a place...
Read moreVisited yesterday with three generations of my family and everyone really enjoyed it! Be sure to take a tour of the Four Seasons room where you can see how the Native Americans moved seasonally in Minnesota to gather food. It informs the structures they lived in, how they fished, harvested wild rice, hunted, or gathered sap for processing into sugar. The tour guide's grandmother was represented in the life-size diorama cooking fish. It was really wonderful because the guide was sharing the story of his people. It didn't feel like just historical artifacts and rituals, but a culture that still carries on in today's world.
Be sure to visit the Trading Post, a wonderful high-quality selection of Native American crafts! We have visited the museum & trading post a number of times and we always enjoy it and learn something...
