The Hanapepe Swinging bridge is a historic suspension bridge that was built in 1911. It is a long narrow swinging bridge, which is 3 foot wide and has wooden railings with protective meshes for safe crossing. It is still used by the residents of Hanapepe to cross the Hanapepe river.
This little bridge in Kauai’s ‘Biggest Little Town’, gets its name from its swinging nature. Unlike most swinging bridges in the world, this one is short in height and is safe for family and kids to cross. Kids will love the place as they can run over the grassy patches beside the river and play around.
This bridge is easy to cross and has good parking space for visitors. A lot of tourist visit on Fridays when many activities are going on in the town of Hanapepe.
The Hanapepe swinging bridge has a load limit of 15 persons at a time. If there are people coming from the other end, you’ll have to wait for them to pass, because of the limited width of the bridge.

Read moreIt is a wonderful swinging bridge with sweet river view and old Hawaiian community on both sides. Life is slow and sweet. My little toddler's favorite.
Caution: The bridge is swinging and condition is bad. I saw loose boards and snails. Local children definitely go across it but they are amazing swimmers. Tourists with children are not recommended to go on it without watching the children like a hawk in case the bridge collapse. I recommend take pictures and if you need to go on it, don't stay on for too long. Definitely do not sway and jump on the bridge. Locals need them since their other bridge is being fixed right now. Bridge is free. The river is not fast moving and the bridge is not too high but still a bit scary. The wire holding the bridge is rusted. Three years ago, it was in better condition and I definitely did not feel unsafe then. I am glad they are repairing Hanapepe. See my review...
