OH. MY. GOODNESS.
Ok, you know how that nondescript restaurant in a random strip mall is always just so good? This restaurant is where all those other restaurants come to pray for their own success. They grovel at the pedestal upon which Kauai Ramen waits, patiently, all-knowingly, yet kindly for you to grace its doors and also become a believer.
First off, cocktails are FIVE DOLLARS and they’re delicious.
Secondly, the miso soup is the best I’ve ever had. There were complexities in this soup I’ve never before tasted. I hate people who go “well I’ve BEEN to Japan….” But I’ve been to Japan and this soup is incredible. The tofu was FLUFFY. You might be going “I don’t think I want fluffy tofu” but just SHHH and put it in your mouth first and let yourself be wrong. It’s ok. It’s a growing experience.
Thirdly, the unagi was, again, incredible. Did you know we don't know how or where eels make tiny slimy eel babies? This eel came into our world, secretly slithering through the muddy waters of Immaculate Spawnage to be delivered into the hands of a most talented chef. I swear, I looked at it and it fell apart into bite sized pieces. They all then immediately disappeared from my plate, I assume into my mouth because I am so full.
Look, I was so full when we left- and I NEVER finish all my food, my stomach is a crabby toddler who will eat half her food ONLY, but today, TODAY she was so pleased with Kauai Ramen that we ate it all- that I thought I might barf. The thought did cross my mind that if I did, but then immediately swallowed it, would it taste almost as good as the first time?
Darlingest reader, you can rest your worries, as I kept all of my delicious dinner securely in my stomach. Please treat your own stomach to such treasure and it is sure to care for you just...
Read moreABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. We popped in here around 9pm after hiking Waimea Canyon and the place was filthy upon entry. I ignored the red flags because we were exhausted and starving, and about 5 minutes into the meal a giant cockroach landed on my daughter’s sushi roll. The woman in charge (I think owner), barely flinched and just said sorry. It seemed like this was a regular occurrence. They offered to re-make the roll and didn’t comp our meal. We were scared we got food poisoning from the couple of bites we had, but thank goodness we didn’t. General rule if the place is filthy and disgusting out where it’s visible to customers, what the #%!* does their kitchen look like?! We are actively trying to shut this place down. It has been reported to the health department. From dirt and soy sauce on the walls and every nook of the place, it just reeked of dirty subway station. STAY...
Read moreThis place is truly a hidden gem. We happened to pass it while at the Big Save next door and we glanced at their menu and wanted to check it out. It's a small place but it was probably some of the best food i've ever had. I had the "B Combo". The wonton soup was super flavorful and the wontons in the soup were awesome. The gyoza (and I mean this literally) melted in your mouth. The chicken katsu curry was the star of the show for me. It was beautifully breaded and crispy, and the chicken was still very juicy and moist. The curry that came with the katsu was seasoned beautifully and my tastebuds were very happy with the whole experience. If you are in the area and want some good food I definitely recommend this place. (Or at least the katsu). I wish I had photos to add, however I was too excited to eat it and did...
