I have been going to this spot for many years. The main area has a huge pavilion and smaller pavilions that can be reserved for events through the county website. There are restrooms and the beach has a protected sort of lagoon area which is great for keiki or anyone really, the ocean here can have currents and for some, it is challenging. Please check online to get info on our beaches and safety precautions. I'm not trying to make it scary, but it is imperative that people are informed and respect the ocean or she'll show you who is boss. There is a huge playground area called Kamalani playground, it's over to the right from the main pavilion area if you're facing the ocean. My understanding is that we still have a lot of houseless folks camping there post pandemic, this was the main hub in 2020-2021 for them so they could be in one place and receive food, shelter and care from the community. This is just a heads up so you're not surprised. Always lock your car here, avoid keeping valuables in an unattended vehicle, check beach conditions and ocean safety while planning your day, be patient, kind, respectful, slow yourself down and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us here. Check the UV index. Try to avoid chemical sunscreens, especially the spray on types, we have trade winds here and that stuff gets carried in the wind. The chemicals are bad for the ocean, the reefs and the wildlife. UV protective clothing, umbrellas & mineral based sunscreens are awesome. Avoid the peak times of day if you're not used to high UV rays. Drink lots of water, refill your water bottle if you can, to avoid excessive amounts of plastic bottles going into our stressed recycling centers or worse, into our landfills. Aloha always and...

Read moreWhat a cool park! Wow, so much to say! We were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn directly across the street from the park and beach. We were staying in one of their cottages so the 2 parks were right below us, literally right out our back slider! One is very new looking, with astoturf, lots of fun things for the kids including a tea cups type ride, wow! And there is also a wooden park right next door that looks pretty old and beat up, but don’t let that fool you! It’s well maintained, the wood has been treated so you won’t get tons of splinters and it’s actually a super fun maze of things to do! It’s definitely geared toward older kids whereas the newer park is more for younger kids. My 10 year old enjoyed them both!
And the beach was just across the street from there! The park is huge! There are multiple parking areas (for free), multiple parks, areas with sheltered picnic tables, bathrooms, and of course, the beach! A wonderful protected area to swim or let the kids out too! The entire area is well maintained and exceptionally clean!! We even saw them cleaning both parks in the morning before we went down to play!
Yes the beach has been a bit beat up from the storms so there are some portions of the beach that are less swimmable. But it’s super spread out and I loved the...
