And I’m currently planning my 3rd visit 🤫 Comment KAUAI and I’ll send you the Google my maps I put together for this trip with some additional spots to check out if you have time šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ WHERE TO STAY: - if I was to go back I would split up my time and do half on the sunny side (southern half) and half on the northern side - if you only want to book one accommodation, pick Kapa’a as your base since this is close to a halfway point and has a ton of great places to eat - if you’re okay splitting, I recommend 3/4 days in Poipu and 3/4 days in Princeville/Hanalei area. This will give you easy access to Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali coast/Kalalau Trail WHAT TO DO: - hike the Kalalau Trail to Hanakāpī’ai beach or falls (you need a permit for the shuttle or parking lot if you aren’t a resident) - hike Sleeping Giant - drive Waimea Canyon and hike at the top - visit Hanalei Bay for shopping, the beach, and to watch sunset at the pier - kayak Wailua River to Secret Falls (you can do a tour or rent your own) - do a whale watching tour (Dec - Apr) or a sea cave/coast tour (May - Nov) from Port Allen (@kauaiseatours was amazing!!) - visit the Kilauea Lighthouse to see native birds, whales (if you’re lucky) and numerous other wildlife - do a beach day at one of the many beaches on the sunny side or in Kapa’a - we loved Lydgate Beach - hike Moalepe Trail and check out the swing - hike the Wai Koa Loop and swim in the reservoir *PLEASE follow Leave No Trace and ALL signage as it relates to proper etiquette on the trails here. This is an island with a fragile ecosystem and ensuring we don’t transfer seeds or invasive species to new parts of the island is ESSENTIAL. WHERE TO EAT: - @sushigirlkauai has some of my favorite poke - @hanaleipoke so so good - @kilaueabakery for some of the best baked goods I’ve had in a long time - @avalongastropub for a nice dinner - @javakaikauai to satisfy your caffeine needs - @wishingwellshaveice or @wailuashaveice if you want to try shave ice - @japanesegrandmascafe before whale watching or sea cave excursion - @holeygraildonuts if you love yourself at all #kauaifood #kauaieats #kauaiactivities #hawaiitrip #explorekauai

Hawaii is the cure for depression šŸŒøšŸļøšŸ‘™šŸ¹ I didn’t think I was a beach girlie until I went to Hawaii. And then someone told me I might just be a Hawaii girlie and that just hit. Both Raleigh and Charlotte have great flights with only one connection to Kauai āœˆļø I’ve been to this island twice now and can confidently say it is the perfect place for us adventure addicts. My top adventures were ā¤µļø - hiking the Kalalau Trail to Hanakapi Falls (you need a parking or shuttle permit for this one!!) - whale watching with @kauaiseatours which I learned does a great job of championing femme bodied people in the charter industry (our captain Jen was FABULOUS) - sunset hike down to a hidden beach and swimming in the stunning water - hiking sleeping giant near Kapa’a - kayaking the Wailua River to Secret Falls PSA - obviously a trip is not the solution for depression but it sure as hell helps when seasonal depression is in full swing #hawaiitravel #kauaihawaii #kauaiadventures #kalalautrail #kauaibeach #hanalei #hanaleibay #sunsetbeach #beachsunsets #sunsetswim

First, there are three trail options. Apparently many of the comments are about the west trail (not as steep, not as long, no crazy bouldering). We did the east trail, because we didn’t know there were three and were very confused about how much more difficult it was compared to the comments. However, we did do it and the views are well worth the effort. If you take the east trail our advice is schedule 3 hours, bring poles for the hike down, make sure you have enough water and snacks, it is a constant ascent, there are sections where you are crawling up rocks. Keep going until you see the shelter and picnic tables then continue to the summit. I am in my late 60s, my daughter is late 30s, both of us are moderately active and did it by going slowly and being careful.

PLEASE don’t leave trash on the trail. It sucks to see such a beautiful place disrespected like that. If you also think littering sucks, bring a bag and pick up ANYTHING you see that doesn’t belong there. But besides that - incredible hike! Unbelievable 360 views at the top and beautiful views through out the hike as well. 2 miles up and took us about 1 hour, longer if you’re stopping to take pics which I’m sure you’ll want to do. I’d definitely wear good boots and if you want those 360 views at the end, be prepared to climb straight up some rocks. For that part, keep going up past the picnic tables and I would not bring kids for...

This was an AMAZING hike. I went with my mom, and it took us 1 hour up to get to the very top, and 1 hour back down, so it’s a solid 2 hour hike round trip. There is some minor bouldering/ rock scrambling but that’s only if you want to go past the bench area to the two higher up viewpoints (it’s definitely worth the scramble). You get to see TWO full 360 degree viewpoints, it is GORGEOUS! I definitely recommend...
