Cave Run Lake Tailwater — Attraction in Kentucky

This is my happy place. Located on highway 826 on the opposite side of Cave Run Lake, the Spillway feeds into the Licking River keeping water levels in the lake in check. There are two pavilions with picnic tables along with charcoal grills. The pavilions are rentable for family events. There is a bathhouse, water fountains and a large swing set, and two play areas for children. Along the banks there are also more picnic tables and grills. There is also a boat ramp for those who want to fish on the river. Fishing is also allowed at the Spillway, but swimming is prohibited due to the swift current. Great river to paddle down very calm and not fast moving in most parts remotely near the Dam and great for small trips or some swimming farther back away from the start. If you don't have a pickup point some where down the river then keep in mind you have to paddle back up river and keep a spare since I broke a paddle going back last time. The spillway side of the damn on the Licking River is a nice place to visit. The earthen dam is beautiful. The recreational facilities are superb. Nice green area for playing, clean and functional restrooms, covered picnic pavilions, additional picnic tables. Decent fishing in the spillway waters SOMETIMES.
