Overall this is a nice campground for primitive camping. The majority of the sites are spaced out and private but unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures online of the sites so the one we got was not private. We stayed at site #4 and it is best suited for a group of friends because your neighbors are 10-15 yards away with no trees or anything in between. The biggest issue with site #4 is there is no picnic table. Luckily we were only staying one night so not a big deal but there was no mention of it on the booking website (Reserve America). Aside from that, it is well kept and the bath house was pretty immaculate for such a full weekend. Several playgrounds nearby if you have kids to occupy. The main overall issue is the lack of staffing. I'm not sure if it's the usual or if there is a lack of staff in general but we got in shortly after 7PM and there was no ranger or staff to be found to get firewood. No honor system or anything so we had to venture out to find some after we got our tent up because the main office was closed as well. As a heads up, the Dollar General does not sell wood nor does the new Lakecity Mart gas station. We found a large white house/business of some sort that had an honor system and it was $10 for a massive bundle of wood. Oh and when we left on Sunday, as of about noon, there still wasn't any staff anywhere in the park that we saw. Not sure what was up with that. Some of the hiking trails were well marked and up kept but some others were not so if you aren't good with navigation, choose wisely. Biggest issue we had was with the Gazebo Loop Trail/Pioneer Trail. Several spots were overgrown and not marked so you had to guess a little bit until you ran back into a well worn trail. Didn't do any lake activities but the water looked nice and there was a lot of activity on it. Nice boat ramps as well. Overall a nice stay but choose your site wisely. I took several pictures of each site to help others in the future. I didn't get site 7 or 10 because they were occupied but they are pretty nice as well but 10 is slightly open and not as secluded.

I ventured out here to check out the trail system on my mountain bike. I was told they allow bikes and hadn't been out to ride them. So I decided I'd spend a few hours and play around. I looked online for a trail map but was not able to find one. I called the campground and was informed that they have copies inside. So I stopped at the info center and grabbed a trail map and decided to do the Possum Ridge trail, ~6 miles. I give 3 starts because the trail wasn't really marked well and found myself off the main trail and going down some sorta trail that wasn't even on the map. I managed to use google maps and figure out about where I was and managed to get back on the right trail. After getting back on track I found the trails were marked better as I went around. Now for the actual trail status, these trails were extremely rutted up with horse tracks. It made it near impossible to ride some parts. Rain and water sit inside these tracks and holes made by the horses and you just slide all over the place. There were a few good spots that made for some decent riding but I'd say only 40% of the ride was actually enjoyable. It was an adventure so and sorta fun to try out a new area. There are other trails in the park though so maybe those are a little less traveled. There's a ton of potential there and would be awesome if they made some mountain bike specific trails. Some really beautiful areas back there.

Went to Taylorsville Lake State Park on the weekend before the 4th of July. We camped in a tent site but there are also RV sites and all of the sites there are very nice. Lots of shade, good firepits, playground, lots of grassy areas, and the bathrooms and showers are very nice too. The campground is close to lots of hiking and horse trails, but I was not impressed with the hiking trail we did. They are very rundown and not well kept. The lake is very pretty though, and not a far drive from the campground. Overall, this is a great place for camping, boating, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, wildlife watching, and just being outdoors. We will definitely be going back soon.

I always wanted to go this lake, and not that I have it's not the hype I made in my mind. The lake was beautiful and the area was clean. The camp ground on the other hand...... Well let's just say I almost drove over a woman laying so close to the road. It's not much of a camping site and nothing to write home to mom about in my opinion. The absolute worst thing you could do trying to find this place is use GPS. I went through the woods and my small vehicle drive over areas I would have never tried on purpose. I know I passed this one cow 4 X. The road disappeared and sunlight began to fade, and no it was not night time it was about noon on a very hot sunny day. I passed several barns that reminded me of jeepers creepers no joke. The corn fields was so beautiful I thought I was in a real life Farmville game. Well, needles to say about 3 half hours later I can't across a visiting center. I didn't see anyone to get help from until I emerged from a much needed bathroom break. I heard a young girl/lady quietly say hello and some point during my story about being lost a man poke his head out of an office. Well, with directions back to Kansas... A. K. A Louisville and a shared laughter from a nice young lady I was relaxed, but the gentleman in the back office have me a smirk and a get out look..... Mmmmm needles to say I hauled axxxxxxxxx......lol pig, yeah I almost wrecked my car the rain began to pour and a very small turtle was crossing the road. I'm not sure how I notice it, but I slid to allow him/her to cross as he/she meaning the turtle have me a watch yourself idiot driver.....lol I found myself being apologetic for something I'm sure I did wrong in nature eyes. Well, I made it back to civilization with more vehicles being on the road. I was happy and my cat was happy because the radio began to work again and my cell phone lit up with several text messages. I think I'll keep sake the picture and never make that left at ALBUQUERQUE in the words...

I would like to start off by letting you know that I’ve camped my whole life so I have been to several campgrounds. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. This was a pretty important trip we took with our family and decided to camp on your grounds. We have had some devastating situations in our family recently and needed time away to heal and try to have a good week and the exact opposite happened. First off the rule of no tents on the grass was completely insane and the first time I’ve ever been told that we had to sleep on rocks instead of the grass. Second off the fire ring was small and directly under the trees. Third the worst by far, we were “unaware” my nephew a 14 yr old boy being a boy tried taking a branch down for some firewood of course once we were AWARE of the situation we corrected it immediately. The next day we get a knock on my parents camper door by a park ranger and he talked about the tree branch incident and told us that he made the decision to kick us off of the campground. We were all so very upset. I must say whomever made the decision must not have had any children or has no idea that kids will be kids. This cut our short trip even shorter! I as a child at other better campgrounds had done things I should not have done and the action was corrected they did not set out to ruin a family’s vacation. This was absolutely unacceptable and I definitely will never return and I will make sure to spread the word. Worst camping...
