Very disappointed.. since we been here the office nor trading post has been open. Had drive 20 minutes away to get ice and firewood. No where to get it from at the park. Nobody to even ask. Haven't seen not 1 single worker. Probably could had got away with not even paying the reservation. Wouldn't surprise me if people are camping for free. Cuz noone works there to even know. The bath house/rest room is outdated but it was very clean. That's only reason I gave 2 stars cuz somebody obviously is cleaning the bathroom. Everytime I been to it in the last 3 days it's been clean and smelled clean as well. And stocked with tp. The scenery is beautiful but there are alot of bugs and spiders. Which cant complain on nature..park was clean. We camped in tent with water and electric. Our site was lil weird on how it is shaped but satisfied with overall appearance and location. Seen a rec building but it was locked. Would be cool if it was in use. And if they had a store or place to purchase ice and firewood then I would probably had Rated 5 stars. All sc state parks say do not bring firewood must purchase at camp site. Cuz of a bug issue. But in the case here you may want bring your own. We would had if we had known. Who hell wants drive 2o to 30 mins to buy something you could had brought but didn't cuz they have rules. So yea bring your own firewood. This campground in the exception. Thought maybe they be finished with inventory by our 3rd day but nope. Sign still says closed for inventory. By time we got back with our ice it was half melted so that's a big negative. I don't recommend camping here. Maybe for a day visit it be fine. Squirrels were super friendly tho. At least the squirrels greeted us. Won't be back. And will...
Read moreKings Mountain is a wonderful park. We had been there a few times many years ago before we had children, and decided to take them there for a long weekend. When we arrived, there was a camper in our site and no one there. Spoke to the rangers who said there was nothing they could do until the owners got back. We waited for about an hour and a half....by now our kids are getting hungry, it's getting cold, and getting dark. We decide to set up (pop up camper) in a site we verified was empty for the night. The camper owner on our site, that we booked 3 months ago, didnt get back until well after dark, we allowed him to stay on our site for the night since we were already set up and had no intention of relocating that late. I thought we were extremely courteous, but apparently he didnt feel that way as he left his outside lights on all night and proceeded to play his tv so loud that we had trouble sleeping and then did not vacate our site until around 1pm the next day. The park was booked solid for the remainder of the weekend so we moved and set up again. The park ranger admitted that it was her fault for not verifying our site before we got there, but that was a lot of inconvenience for us, and had there not been a vacant site for us, we would have been 2 and a half hours from home with nowhere to stay. Lots of drama. Lol. They did say they would refund us for one night, not exactly what I felt was adequate for our trouble, but better than nothing. Once all of that was behind us we had a great time. Beautiful park and the living farm is interesting. I would recommend this park, but I would also recommend calling the morning of arrival to make sure that nobody is...
Read moreWe arrived after hours, were provided a gate code that didn't work.. Had to call sheriffs office to contact a ranger. Left message prior to arrival and prior to their phone service going out due to storm. no call back. Took 3 1/2 hours to get access to camp site. The ranger that opened gate we had flag down at 2 am to find out where to go, pulling 48 ft horse rig with horses.. we asked her to show us, and she just told us next gravel road to right. The fishing here is non existant . Crawford lake is just an nasty green slim hole . Was told when I asked Kevin , he said he used to work at croft state park but had been here 10 years and hasn't known it to be stocked. All gates are locked down like a state prison after 9pm. Insane! Riding trails are slick and rocky .. there was no one else camping in equine camping. There is electrical hook up fot horse trailers but NO water.. they have hose bibs across the road from campsites and only 1 hose bib for 4-5 camp sites. We saw no birds , no deer , no squirrels.. etc. there , 4 days no wildlife anywhere which we found odd. Canoes and john boats haven't been use in a while full of water and green slime. Some locked down some not. Santee , croft state parks are access 24 hours in park, great finishing and excellent staff. Absolutelt nothing to do ., the fishing is what we were excited about . Not sure why this place is locked down ?!!!... They need a lot of inprovement , like stocking ponds and manicuring around Lake Crawford. And then there is Lake York which is totally unavailble go anyone . We went to Lake...
