Simply the best dog park within the Lake ,Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Summit County area. Park is divided into 3 separate fenced in play areas. One area is for dogs 35 pounds or less. One area serves dogs 35 pounds and larger. The third area is a lovely large pond where dogs frolic in or around the water. The Park's website lists its dimensions as, " Canine Meadow has a large dog area (2.57 acres), a swim area (1.84 acres) and a small dog area (1.02 acres). Access to the swim area is by way of the large dog area only."
The park is well planned having a two gated entrance to prevent dogs from running out without their owners.
The park for larger dogs contains a specific area for drinking water and or to bath your dog prior to leaving the park. The large dog park has a play area with benches for owners to sit as their dogs run and interact with their doggie friends. At the entrance to the "large dog" section, there is a gentle slope with small bushes which allows dogs to run thru a small trail between the bushes as if they are playing hide and seek. This section then opens on the southeastern side to a larger gentle slope where dogs play fetch or chase. On the western fenced side of the park is the gate to enter the pond.
As of August 29th, 2019. The pond area was closed to dogs. The park's website stated, "Alert: The pond at Canine Meadow Dog Park is currently closed. It is tested and treated on a bi-weekly basis by an outside lab for bacteria to determine whether the water is safe enough for both humans and pets. If the results exceed the recommended threshold, the pond will remain closed until it returns to an acceptable level. Check back for updates."
My best buddy & I have visited the the park since its opening. Each visit has filled my dog with joy. Even now as he reached "senior status" today's visit brought a smile to his face and a wag to his tail I haven't seen in awhile. He romped off circling the larger area's perimeter taking in all the...
Read moreMy dog loves it here. There is a ton of space for running around and it is great for her on a hot day since she can go swimming in the pond. Not so great for us humans, as there is no shade to speak of and very few places to sit, none of which are in the shade. I have also noticed a few dead smelt floating in the pond near the shoreline by the tree that grows on the water, but I never expected that water to be clean anyway, so I'll keep letting my dog swim there. My one complaint is the shade issue. A few awnings and planting a few non-nut bearing shade trees would make the place perfect. There is enough space that the dogs are able to run if anyone gets too rough, so aggression is minimal, and there is enough to sniff and explore that they don't get bored and want to wrestle constantly. My dog loves to wrestle and at smaller dog parks she will spend the entire time trying to find dogs to play fight with her, which had lead to her becoming aggressive when meeting new dogs. Since bringing her here she has resorted to her usual sweet self. She still wants to play, but when the other dog shows they aren't interested she will back off again, rather than keep escalating until they are actually afraid and try to defend themselves. (Which she would think was great fun, and the other poor thing would absolutely hate .) So yeah, this park is great for the wide open spaces and the opportunity to swim. We would come every day if it weren't 40...
Read moreOh, what an exciting place to be! All sorts of dogs with their accompanying adult, enter through the secure triple gate to find acres of Meadowlands to romp in. There are two sides: one for large dogs, and one for small. The large dog area contains a large pond. Its hilarious to see the dogs swimming with wild abandon and joy.
Everyone is friendly and helpful. Its almost like a club, even though its the first time you've met.
In the smaller dog area there are a few benches, and one tree, and a watering spot, and bags for cleanup. The parking lot is often filled, but because of the randomness of people visiting no one seems to have had to wait on Rt.6.
I may be wrong, but it seems to me that there's a lot of weather out there! Dress for extra sun, or rain, or windiness. I'm always glad I dress in layers. For wetter weather, be sure to wear boots, and wear mud proof clothes. Your baby may not jump up, but other dogs are apt to.
I've not yet seen any friction or fights among the visitors (dogs or human). All is...
