Any place where I can bring my dog & kids is a win! Beautiful beach, they have a water spigot in the picnic area for rinsing and a drink for your dog with a bowl. Great boardwalk for fishing with gorgeous views. Beautiful beach with rocky outcrops for tide-pooling. Some areas of the beach are quite rocky so make sure kids or “friends” with sensitive feet wear footwear accordingly. My kids found hermit crabs and other cool ocean creatures and my fur-baby ran and met some friends of her own. Past the small jetty area and I was told (and viewed others) had their dogs off leash in those areas. There are fees I know it’s $20 a car and $5 for walk-ins and I believe kids are $1. Well worth it! Tired kids and pup is a day well-spent!!

I enjoyed my time there inspite of the strong wind. It died down around the fort. Playground and outhouse available. Walkways and parking close to the ocean. When the tide is out, you can explore more. Buy your ticket online before you go, as the other reviews have stated! I printed mine. I showed it through the window and I was waved through. Cars were parked before the signs saying you need to purchase your ticket online and reception is not good. You can picnic here. Good for kids. Good views of lighthouses. I recommend a visit! Only disappointment, graffiti on a few walls and inside the observation room on the fort closest to the ocean 🌊.

Fort Foster is maintained and run by the town of Kittery. If you want to avoid the $20 per vehicle fee, bring your walking shoes for a much more reasonable per person rate if you don't have a lot of people in your party. There are bathroom facilities, water, pavilions, old fortifications to look at, a very long pier, picnic tables, playground, sandy beaches and rocky coast too. I have always enjoyed the amazing views of the Portsmouth harbor, it's lighthouses and the beautiful ocean. If you enjoy fishing, scuba diving, swimming, etc. you can find it here. It's well worth a visit and I keep going back with my kids and we never get tired of it.

What a great place! You get to enjoy the beauty of the ocean, the gray sand beach, the pier, the lighthouses, and the trails on the fort. This place has plenty to keep you busy for hours. Although this was an early 20th century fort, the remaining small structures are mostly sealed up with limited access. The fort has ample parking with plenty of picnic tables and grassy areas to spread a blanket. There are rest rooms near both beach areas. An entrance fee is required and varies if you are a resident or visitor, but the fee is worth it!

Enjoyable visit to Fort Foster. Very mild with Temps in the mid 50's and for this time of year, I thought it was likely busier than normal for New Year's Day. Grounds are very nice and well kept up. Several different areas from rocky shorelines, pebble beaches, sandy beaches as well as remnants of an old fort. Off season, there was no charge for admittance but also no available facilities. Plenty of picnic tables around. Lots of people out with their pets. All in all, a nice place to enjoy the shoreline.

This is a great park for running, a minor hike, or to see views of the Whaleback lighthouse
