I have seen this island 🏝️ and house from afar since I was a kid! Now to have visited in person was wonderful 👍! I brought my daughter and she was " meh😕" while I just relaxed and enjoyed the views! We came via Portsmouth Harbor Cruises and they were, and to quote the ninth Doctor, fantastic! Great views of 🐋 Whaleback Lighthouse! Small ⛱️ beaches to walk along. The museum 🖼️ is small but in great shape. There is a room you can rent that has a kitchen and shower 🚿. The history that was on display I found fascinating, especially learning about the life of those who dedicated themselves to maritime rescue 🛟. Read moreThe Wood Island Life Saving Station is amazing! Beautifully restored, with bits of the original here and there. Plus a lovely suite to stay the night. And a nice 30 minute boat ride to the island. But it's meaning and purpose is the best part. The "surfmen" who lived there were the precursor to the Coast Guard. Crazy brave and devoted to saving lives. This rates the highest marks on our best places to visit....
