Kitty Hawk Dog Park — Attraction in Kitty Hawk

Pretty decent dog park, fencing was great, multiple gate entry for dog security. But I did have several complaints to share, just so everyone is aware. When we entered the gate, we closed both gates behind us as we would at our home park, and we were greeted somewhat rudely that we weren't supposed to close the outside gate which had a key code lock on it, I'm not sure how we were supposed to know to leave that open?? The other issue is the almost all sand play area. Our dog normally plays on grass so she had issues with the sand bothering her feet (not sure this is something that can be addressed considering the soil at the beach), the sand also got all over us, in our shoes (not a huge deal, just inconvenient). Pretty decent dog park. Not the best I've ever seen but our dog enjoyed it. Two sections. One about a half acre and the other maybe an acre and a half. It is mostly sand, but does have some grassy areas. Seating, shade, water and waste bags provided. Could use trash cans inside the park but does have one at the entrance. The dog park is adjacent to a regular park and very close to a nature trail. Bathrooms on site were actually relatively clean and in decent repair. Great dog park. Nice and big with both and large dog areas. Bonus that there is a walking trail that ends at Birch lane (approximately 1.8 miles) There's no parking at Birch lane so you gotta start at the dog park. Ample parking.
