Easy walk from the parking lot to the beach through the tunnel. The couple times we have been here, there has been water in the tunnel so expect to have to walk through it. It appears it fills up during the evening from the high tide and slowly drains during the day. The water is pretty clean and actually helps clean the sand off on the way back to the parking lot. If you don't want to get your feet wet because you want to take a stroll along the beach or something, I would avoid this route. Otherwise, it is fine.
There are restrooms and showers here.
The beach is beautiful and is a part of Crystal Cove State Park. Walk about half mile north along the beach and you will find tide pools, which are fun to explore.
We camped at Moro Campground twice now, which is just above the parking lot to the tunnel. Because we got there prior to early check-in time for the campground, we went ahead and paid for the day pass to access the parking lot. The day pass that day was $15 and couple be used at any of the state parks.
There are other hiking trails to the wilderness area from this...
Read moreThe park and beach are beautiful, however they really need to manage parking better. They are now making people pre-pay for parking, which applies to all of the nearby state parks as well. Theres not a problem with that, but the issue comes when all of the parking lots here and the others are totally full and you've already paid for parking.
But, ok, the system for payment doesnt account for number of sales. Fine. Still, none of the parks knew that their own lots were full and, to top it off, didnt communicate with the other parks that they were filling up. This led us to first go to Crystal Cove and be told to go up the road to another parking area. Getting there, they said they were full and to go to Pelican. Upon getting there, they said they were probably full and to check at the first place we went (which was still full). So, having paid for a day of parking, we were left to go to nearby Fashion Island until the...
Read moreThis beach was the best thing after my hike at the morro hike trails. Its so separated from lousy people that visit the beaches and private in sense. It was relaxing to watch the waves and dolphins nearby with very little people near by. I came with my sister around 6 am and it was the lost peaceful location yet the trash cans need to be emptied out as they were so full of trash. Other than that I would love to come back soon.
The wildlife and trails in this state park are one of a kind. Stumbled across squash and edible flowers, animals and luckily no rattlesnakes. Didn't know I could bring my bike but next time I will do that. Parking for entire day is 15 and you can pay with apple or Android pay,...
