It's definitely a 4.5 trail rating. Multiple access points, the beach access has 3 main entrances and two main parking lots. One of which has a beach access tunnel. Clean, well organized, and just serene impactful and 💯 nature! It's one of few areas in the OC that contains miles and miles of trails. From hard to easy, you'll find your trail to be adventurous. Great for families, for runners joggers, hikes, nature lovers, etc. Parking, park there, or get a park pass, the outline area has little to no public free parking . So, make sure you drive there and pay for day parking. Make sure you visit the beach and get your money worth of time.

Great trail! Beautiful views and lots of awesome bugs to see if youre into that sort of thing. The little cave is really neat and a great little rest spot and turn around point. We parked by the visitors center and walked down to start the trail and took the Poles trail back to do a bit of a loop. Poles was tough and is absolutely called that for a reason, steep and can be done without poles but be sure to take lots of breaks to rest if you need it. Would hike this trail again!

I did the easy one hour trail which I would rate a medium difficulty trail. Especially the Poles trail is pretty steep. I really liked the trail. It has some great ocean views and yellow mustard flowers are scattered here and there in the entire valley. I also happened to catch a glimpse of a rattlesnake on the trail. There are multiple parking spots so make sure you remember where you parked. Parking is $5 per hour or $15 for one day.

This place has a great variety of hikes to choose from, anywhere from really challenging to a nice stroll. Dirt paths are very easy to follow and there are signs and/or maps at every junction so you won't get lost. There's is also beach access from the state park through a tunnel. I would give it 5 stars but parking costs $15 for the day (until 8pm) which I think is a bit steep. Make sure you pay for parking because they do check and you can get a ticket. There's a machine to pay for the parking. You'll need to enter your license plate number and how many days you're planning on staying (for those people who go camping). The machine takes credit cards and cash. There's also an app called Passport you could use to pay for parking as well. There are bathrooms but they're not in the best condition. Also, parking is pretty limited so I would get there earlier rather than later. Good news is there's a constant flow of people finishing their hike so if you're patient you'll secure a spot eventually.

I recommend bringing your mask, parts of the trail can get pretty crowded, especially by the beach...

First time here and I liked it. Most everything was dry along the trail but I know that's because of the mostly dry weather Southern California has been getting. I trekked on the strenuous trail which according to the maps was approximately 9 miles, but my GPS tracked me at approximately 10 miles, and it was indeed strenuous for me. I'm not much of an active guy and I haven't hiked anything in about a year, but I'd say I'm in pretty ok physical condition and I finished the hike in about 3 hours and 30 minutes instead of the 4:30 the guide suggests. The trail included about 4 steep inclines and declines, so be sure to take some trail mix and about half a gallon of water. I took quick 20 second breaks about every half a mile as well as after getting to the top of a steep incline. The views are, however, spectacular when you get to the ridge. I'd recommend for those who have the physical capabilities but are iffy about these type of hikes. The 4 stars is because of the expensive parking fee of $15, but at least it's for the whole day...

Great place to hike for all levels. Lots of sun exposure, so keep that in mind and carry water and sun protection. Most trails have steep sections, but the canyon bottom is not steep for most sections, so that is a good beginner or kid-friendly trail. A popular spot for mountain cyclists, so do be aware. Most, but not all, of them follow appropriate trail etiquette in terms of announcing their presence - it can sometimes be hard to hear bikes coming up behind you, especially if you are conversing with a hiking partner. (I bike there too, and saying "passing on your left" can go a long way in keeping everyone safe and having a great day.) The beach across the street is gorgeous and great for a post-hike dip...
