It's a pretty course that much is for sure. However having to withdraw from a company tournament after finding out the course is STILL cart path only kills it for me. Can you imagine how frustratingly long a round of golf would be playing in a 4 man team scramble tourney ?? That is wild. Those types of tourneys are already long WITHOUT the cart path only rule. I get it, Beryl damaged some areas of fairway but not to the point where cart path only should still be in affect spring break 2025. The hurricane made landfall July 8th....
Again. The course is beautiful and fun. However the decision to keep it cart path only this long in the name of "turf regrowth" ruins it. Anyone who plays golf regularly knows that being told the course is cart path only sucks. And in this case it sucks even more because we can all see the course shouldn't be cart path only. Caution tape amd a few cones would achieve the same result. No discounts on membership dues/tee times, just stuck with having to walk🤷.
Until this gets sorted Freeport Municipal Golf Course is the course to play in the area.
If I have to be THAT guy then so be it. Seems like people just don't want to say the quiet part out loud for some...
Read moreOur group will make the hour drive to Wilderness to play once every 6-8 weeks. They recently advertised a special steak dinner event they were having, but unfortunately, by the time I called, they were sold out but had a waitlist to which I was added. The dinner is 4 days away and I’ve been contacting Wilderness to see if I would be coming off the waitlist, since I wanted to book a tee time to play there before the dinner. I’ve left a message that was ignored. I followed up with a phone call and was told someone would return my call later today. Ultimately, no one has reached out. Wilderness obviously does not need or want my business, so I will take it elsewhere. I was planning to bring a friend who has never heard of Wilderness. Unfortunately, I’ve sold her on the course and friendly service that is now obviously lacking. Very disappointing experience. I understand they may not have room for us for the dinner, but a courtesy return call would have been nice so we can make...
Read moreIf you’re like me, you saw the 4.7 Google rating for this course and thought well this must be a Hidden gem. I made the trek out to Lake Jackson from Houston, and while I’m happy I did come out to check out the course, it’s definitely not a 4.7 google rating. It’s not better than memorial wildcat or tour 18 or any of the other solid public courses in Houston. It’s got a fun design and it’s maintained fairly well. The holes have some cool layouts and you really do feel like you’re in the wilderness at some point. However, the greens need a significant amount of work. They aren’t that fast, there Is one hole with a huge sand pit on the green. So is the course worth the 45 minute drive from Houston? probably for a one-time trip and a cheap round ($40 twilight is not bad). But it’s not worth trekking out there All the time, and it’s overall reading should really be something...
