This spot has a special place in my heart from my upbringing that gives it 5 stars right away, but it really is an awesome hidden gem. No pets allowed! And, as much as I absolutely love to bring my two dogs with me everywhere, I would heed this rule and leave them home. It's really not a place for pets. There are a couple very short and steep trails from the parking lot to the area where you will scramble the boulders to the water line. There isn't a sandy/beachy shore here. There are no picnic tables or grills. It's not your classic day-at-the-lake kind of spot, but this is why I like it so much!
It's a super fun place with all the boulders. You can pretty easily find one suitable for laying out on if that's your thing. There are hardly ever other people around, so you get the feeling of seclusion. It's along the same shoreline as the Oasis, so it's a great sunset viewing spot, too! There is, of course, a roped off swimming area, and it's pretty small so the boats pass nearby and bring lots of fun waves. :)
I would choose this park over the others ANY day of the week! But just keep in mind: tough scramble to the water, do not bring pets, can't cookout here, no shade at all once you get to the boulder-scramble/water line, and definitely bring water shoes! Other than that, enjoy a nice hidden gem on an otherwise...
Read moreHmmmmm. The pictures were so pretty. Guess I should have paid more attention to pictures and did a better job of reading reviews. Is this place beautiful?: yes, see photos. Is this place accessible?: Be careful y'all. Definitely do not bring a dog. Dog could easily be hurt or killed slipping on these giant awkward rocks and and using a leash would not be safe at all. This is very steep, held onto trees for part of the descent. If you are young and athletic, that's cool but still be careful as it is really steep and injury would be inevitable if you move too quick or misstep. Lots of great big rocks. The view is beautiful and I might venture it again... i was just hoping there would have been an easier route down. And climbing back up afterwards was easier, maybe because you weren't looking down on what you'd hit below if your...
Read moreBeautiful views, fun park for adventurous & athletic people, not so much for young children & I wouldn't even bring dogs here unless you keep them off the dangerous big rocks & stay on the trail, very rocky, no developments or comfy/smooth walkways, just primitive & beautiful nature, nice swimming areas, great exercise climbing over big rocks. Climb down a rocky cliff to reach lake & swim. Bring solid hiking shoes will tear up sandles, a backpack to keep both hands free for climbing. Not the quietest, lots of noisy motor boaters from neighborhood, & playing music loud. Gov needs to put a ban on noisy & smelly & polluting motorcraft, water would be far cleaner & prettier & healthier for people & wildlife. Less noise pollution & overall better. Still very pretty, great place to suntan, rock climb, walk...
