Great little museum nestled in a series of buildings. Unfortunately some of the buildings were closed due to the weather but it took us quite a while to look at was available for viewing. When we passed by we thought we had encountered yet another closed museum but we tried the door when we saw one car outside and was greeted by the two volunteers who were there.
The museum is free (they accept donations) and starts with a timeline of the County and of the prominent families in the area. Many exhibits of stores, the bank, a newspaper, butcher and others were set up to show bygone days. A nice gun collection, clothes from a hundred years ago, mastodon tusks and Indian arrowheads along with home exhibits and wagons. Not to forget the cases with war souvenirs brought home from the conflict in Europe and Asia.
The two ladies were fun to talk and joke with and it was a great experience. Hope to make it back up here to see the parts of the museum that were closed on our visit.
They do a great job at the Kearny...
