Challenger Seven Memorial Park is a terrific place to bring your family for a day or just to come by yourself to walk around. There are walking trails throughout.
When our son was in Cub Scouts, we used it for day camp, but ended up coming back on our own for more. It's a very big park, so there is plenty of room for all kinds of activities. Of course it has a up-to-date swings and fun stuff in the children's play areas.
Plenty of wildlife to see. Though I have not spotted feral pigs, others have. There are signs indicating to not mess with them. I have, however, seen plenty of deer, a few armadillos, and lots and lots of birds. I rather enjoy seeing fish jumping from the boardwalk too.
I am a photographer and use this park regularly because it offer many changes of scenery. You will find plenty of photographers there too. There's a gazebo next to a pond and dock, boat launch, picnic tables next to the boat launch, 2-person swings in the park near the boardwalk, and what used to be my favorite feature...the boardwalk.
Maybe the park can comment on what I am about to type. Right before CoVid hit, they were going to remodel the boardwalk. They shut down one area (at the end of the first straight walk), then eventually closed the whole thing down for construction. It stayed that way for at least 3 years, so I was relegated to rearranging my plan, which is fine. I need to drop by to see if it ever got finished. That is disappointing. I have used the other spots since, but LOVE doing shoots on the boardwalk. It's beautiful to just walk around on it. We've done many times too.
Overall, I give it a big thumbs up and will look forward to going back. I have added phots taken there to illustrate some of the backdrops and beauty...
Read moreMy ex husband used to go there on his motorcycle for lunch under the pavilions and take a nap in the shade during his hour long lunch. He worked at utmb right next to the park. After about 6onths or more of him enjoying his daily lunch during nice weather he asked me if I wanted to ride my cb500 with a trunk, to bring him a picnic lunch. I met him under the pavilions and it was lovely for a good few times. Here is where I need to warn everyone who rides motorcycles through challenger sevens boat drop off.... I could have died riding over the drop off area, I could have dropped my bike onto my left femur and maybe even severed the femoral arterie because of the decline. I was not expecting it to be so violently unstable as I feathered the cluck to safety. Beware motorcycle riders of the boat drop off! I wasn’t warned and could have died all alone on my bike and bled out...
Read moreThis is one of our favorite park due to the size and amount of playgrounds available. There are docks, hills and many trees. 5 playgrounds total. 3 together in a section designed for certain ages use your best judgement. One playground near the reserved pavilion to the left and another to the right of the main 3. Swings for younger and older children. Nature trails. Signs with park facts and information in certain areas. If you want to reserve a pavilion there are 3 you would contact the park via phone for further information. I've seen at least 3 indoor public restrooms and also at least 4 port-o-cans in various areas. If bad rain the area by the docks will flood. The playground flooring is made up of small rocks for the 3 center playground and the 2 on the side near pavilions are the rubber type ground. Totally recommend this...
