Beautiful green space with lots of natural attractions. One of my favorite parts was all of the exposed rock. The trail is paved, but I found no wheelchair accessible ramp. You walk across the grass to access the track. There is plenty of parking spaces available and in several locations. It is very shady in some areas and that made for an easier, cooler walk in the heat. Lots of pavilions available, but they need to be reserved for parties. Found plenty of benches in different areas of the park off the trail. It looks well kept and the groundskeepers were out while there and I just avoided the upper area of the trail all together to stay out of the way. If you cross the street, you'll find a bridge over the Little Cahaba River and on this bridge are locks people have left behind as declarations of love. Some were painted, some engraved, some plain, but it was fun looking at all the different ones. I watched the water for a while bc it was beautiful. As you cross over, you're in another area of the park with a pavillion and gardens. Trees with dedication plaques beneath them are everywhere. This is a very quiet area as well, very peaceful, as you're away from the playground area. It's not as busy and no people, so it would be perfect to gather your thoughts, meditate, or eat lunch. Crossed another parking area and found where an old mill used to stand. All that's left of it are the millstones and sign with all the info. But, it was an interesting read. There is a memorial area for soldiers who gave their lives and a memorial for those still missing. Looks like there is a ball field at the top of the hill and another parking area there. This is a beautiful park, but sadly not really equipped for those with disabilities other than being paved. The restrooms are port o potties and they are conviently placed throughout the park. Not accessible for those in wheelchairs however. The playground looks interesting and fun for the little ones and it was a very busy place. There is little grills in a few places and what looks like a brick double sided grill (with no grates) right in the middle, next to the large pavillion. If you are looking for accessibility, look elsewhere. It is a beautiful, natural...
Read moreThis park is very spacious and has two sides with at least three playgrounds, a large covered picnic shelter, a couple of baseball fields, a creek, a neat shaded area of large rocks, and paved pathways. I only visited the baseball field side. I did not visit the restrooms as they were closed due to covid. On the baseball field side, there is at least one large shelter with many picnic tables under it that overlooks the two playgrounds for both younger and older kids. The larger playground has huge slides. I saw a person in a wheelchair on the larger playground, so I'm assuming there's a ramp or path into it but I did not see it. There is a separate area for older kid swings, including one handicap-accomodating one (though I did not notice a ramp for wheelchairs), with a bench nearby. The younger kids' playground has swings on it for toddlers and ride-on type rocking toys. Both have wood chip surfaces, neither is shaded. Signs state no smoking and no dogs are allowed within the baseball area. There are concession stands. It's a good place to play kickball. The wooded area between the baseball fields and playground has many large rocks that kids enjoy climbing on, and are also good for sitting on if you need to rest and the bench is unavailable. You can probably find a good set of trees for hanging a hammock between as well. All the benches I saw were shaded by trees, but there are not many benches, so bring a chair or blanket for crowded days. There is plenty of grass for frisbee, tossing a ball, bubbles, and tag. Across the road, I could see a smaller playground with a single metal slide. My family who lives in the area said the water flowing through is trashy and not to get in it, so we didn't bother heading that way with all our kids. Overall, a very nice, spacious playground with plenty of shaded areas and features. If you found this review helpful, please give it a...
Read moreThis park is a shining jewel for Leeds. The memorial is very meaningful and well done. The Little Cahaba River meanders through the park and is well kept, as are the grounds of the park. There is a nice, paved walking track which is well used and dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed and you clean up after them. They even provide stations with plastic bags and garbage cans.
Two nice playgrounds have been constructed and are bordered by benches and a couple of large pavilions. One includes a monster enclosed slide! Shade trees abound and there is a nice suspended across the river connecting the park sections.
Behind all of this beauty and fun is a sports park with ball fields and parking. You can't go wrong here. Even if you just take your lunch break and have a picnic, you...
