Well to bad the Adventure Park was allowed. It was once a quite place to go and relax and I can’t see how it’s going to improve the area. Plus I hope they figured in on how to channel in large amounts of traffic, It’s a mess now trying to drive down the access road on the north side. Good luck...if it doesn’t work we’re stuck with a giant mess of steel towers! Update: they are already behind schedule in opening and the parking lots arnt finished. Also they took public parking for them selfs. Also what’s Lemont getting out of this? I see the Lemont Police dept directing traffic at the entrance on the opening day. Are we partially paying for a venture that two billionaires decided to...
Read moreThere's a good size lake with a single boat launch ramp. GPS users need to be careful because the directions would take you to an inaccessible point on the south side of the river. Follow the GPS to the entrance of the parking lot but don't enter unless this is your true destination. If you're looking for the boat launch ramp you need to keep going about 20 or 30 yards past the parking entrance going over railroad tracks then turn right onto a gravel road on the other side of the river. Keep going for about a quarter of a mile until you see a large parking lot. The launch ramp is hidden just past the parking paved area. There's a one stall public restroom nearby. Enjoy your day...
Read moreMy family and I love to come here and walk around the old quarries. The trails are great for exercise or to explore the shoreline. The fishing looks decent and there are usually a number of anglers here on the weekends. I also like to kayak here because of the new boat launch. It is very easy to access with ample parking. One drawback to the area is that the Sanitary and Ship Canal, which runs along to north boundary of the park, can sometimes give off a strong odor of reclaimed water (the Stickney Water Treatment Facility is just upstream). The amount of trash left by some is also upsetting, but what can you do, except pick it up and throw it in the trash...
