On the Rent.fun kayak and sup rentals. There are 4 kayaks and 4 paddleboard you can rent for $15/hr and $5 each half hour after that. These are right by the boat dock. They are stacked 4 high with paddle and life jackets in the lockers with them. You have to download the app and unlock them from the app when your time starts. The first one I rented did not unlock, it appeared to be detached electronically. One of the other four kayaks appeared to have the life jacket missing - I'm sure people do this all of the time without thinking about it, once it's locked, hopefully the life jacket got back in it. The kayaks are only single person, I would have preferred a double kayak option. For the singles, they are actually quite heavy for a female. I was able to get it to the water ok, but getting it back and into the top rental was almost impossible for me. Thankfully another person came by and helped me out. It would be more ideal for me if they were already in the water or, like Shawnee Mission Park, you had people helping you out. Also, because they get water in them, the area right in front of where you get the kayaks out is muddy with no grass. I like the concept of this, I would recommend lighter equipment with more handles and not allowing the lockers to lock until everything is put back, or make some sort of time allowance if people forget to put back the paddle and the life jacket. I won't be renting again unless I'm with someone or until the...
Read moreHad a great winter hike here today. 42°weather and blue skies. Anyone wanting to walk the trail in snowy weather, should know the entire route isn't paved, so be prepared. We used our walking poles and they helped alot. Even in winter, the park is so pretty. I was surprised at the number of people walking. Despite the signs that are up warning people to stay off the lake due to thin ice, we did see a family with young children walking on the ice. DON'T do that. You put yourself and first responders at risk for foolish behavior. They have a couple of parking lots with trail entrances. The public bathrooms are closed in the winter. The paved part of the trail is handicapped accessible. They also have a very nice boardwalk area over the lake. There are benches along the trail so you can stop and have a break. I imagine in warm weather that it's a great...
Read moreThe loop around the lake is pleasant. On the North side offers a 1 mile trail with wide paved path with a wide mowed shoulder. The view of the lake and dam is impressive. This is a GOOD PLACE FOR KIDS because they are kept away from poison ivy.
Between the North and South legs is the dam. They made a good effort to build some artistic features. It is not the usual drab spillway.
The South side of the lake offers a wide gravel path, also 1 mile in length. It is not paved, but it might as well be. It completely smooth with no toe stubbers (roots, rocks, tree trunks). You cannot see the lake very well on this path because there is plenty of foliage.
On the right side of my map, you also see I wandered down a path that leads to a lovely wetlands. That was about a half mile each way, so the total distance...
