Our early September tour of Bluegrass Distillers was really special. I think about it often; which is why I’m finally choosing to leave this overdue review.
The tour itself was short and the facility was small, but that was all part of the charm. This is a local distillery with hard working people like you and me; not some massive corporation. This company takes you under their wing and opens its doors to you. No part of the tour was restricted or kept secret. They simply had everything out in the open as if to say: “this is who we are and how we do things.” It was really wonderful. I felt so welcome, and I loved the authenticity and informality of the whole thing. It was a perfect activity for a September afternoon in Kentucky.
Our tour guide Madelyn contributed to the charm too! She was such a sweetheart and a hoot. She had the knack for entertaining a group and having a good time.
The best part of all: though not bourbon drinkers, in any sense of the word, we found the one bourbon in the whole universe that we could actually stomach! Imagine that!
You really can’t beat the price, plus you get a free shot glass, you can also pet and love the cutest kitty named Tipsy (if bourbon ain’t your thing, or you tour distilleries solely for the cats), and you get to fill your own bottle! We came away with lots of laughs, good memories, and lots of info that opened our eyes to other special moments on our Kentucky adventures, as bourbon is a way of life around here. I’m so so happy they’ve been given the opportunity to progress, and to move onto an old horse farm; an exciting future surely...
Read moreI came very late in the day about 30 min till closing. The woman at the front desk immediately greeted me, and interacted with me. She asked after getting my stamp if I wanted to try their flights, but didn't want to pressure me into it. I said I would since I like to try all bourbon, and the selection was truly great (TRY THE SANTAS HELPER!!). She then gave me a quick tour of the facility, and after talking for a while made quite a few recommendations of places to see in Frankfort when I visit there for more tours. The cat who stays there is also amazingly friendly and loving. My one and only criticism is on the flight tasting, I recommend doing the "blue dog" as they call it, first before any of the other bourbon so that it isn't the last taste in the lineup. Otherwise I truly recommend visiting this distillery and supporting craft...
Read moreMy friends and I took my husband to 4 distilleries for his birthday. The was the one we booked last minute the night before so we could stop by on our way out of town. I was excited to find someone offering a tasting at 10:30 so we could still leave town fairly early. This distillery ended up with the consensus of the best whiskey we tried in town. They loved the Midland finished in the rum barrels. We ended up walking out with a few bottles, lol. The tasting guide was great — we had a few people join us last minute, and it was interesting to hear their thoughts on the different vintages. This is a must stop in for the bourbon or whiskey lover. The best part about the distillery? They have the cutest little working kitty there, Tipsy. She will come up for loving and show off her biscuit...
