Once owned by Thomas Jefferson and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 215-foot tall Natural Bridge is a limestone gorge carved out by Cedar Creek. This Virginia State Park is more than just the bridge. Beautiful forests, open, rolling meadows showcase the area’s terrain, and the surrounding mountains and the James River valley are spectacular. There are 7 miles of hiking trails, including  Cedar Creek Trail that leads from the park’s Visitor Center under the bridge to the Monacan Indian Village and Lace Falls with its 30-foot cascade. The 215-foot-long bridge was sacred to the Monocan tribe and was revered by the American colonists. The site was surveyed in 1750 by a young George Washington, who allegedly carved his initials into the rock. Thomas Jefferson called Natural Bridge “the most sublime of nature’s works” when he purchased 157 acres of land, including the bridge, from King George III of England in 1774. You can see Washington's initials carved on the stone wall. They have it outlined. This site was the main reason we went to Lexington Virginia. It is definitely worth the time to see. Give yourself plenty of time if you plan on doing all that is there!

You are not going to see the natural bridge here. This part of the state park but just a trail head. It is ungated and off a major road, so do not leave anything in your car while hiking. Our window got smashed while here 😞 The trail is decent and the overlook is pretty.

Natural Bridge Park is a beautiful park nice to visit once not sure I’d go back due to $$ it costs to enter. Be prepared to go up and down lots of steps. We encountered a beautiful black snake 🐍 minding his own business. Park was very crowded when we went.

Tiny park with self-service online payments that is just a part of the lengthy process of getting your paperwork correct before entry otherwise you might get fined. They still ask one to fill the form on top of the online payment - the online confirmation code has to be put in writing on the form, which will also include your car plates. Those envelopes put into collection bin are checked frequently. So why not to do the whole entry process online without paper form? Other places accept cash and you just leave parking slip in the windshield - not here. Not worth the effort- we skipped and moved to the next. It was...
