Never meet your heroes. 😢 I am just not someone it is popular to support. Which is fine. But I can leave reviews - and remember that I can block as well.
I had commented a valid concern and spoken to some others with the same concerns - on their job ad - before they blocked me, with no apology, no consideration, no remorse.
Now, I used to be a huge fan, always supportive. I bought the comic books, bought tee shirts, always spoke highly of these people, supported every venture. I was a huge fan for my entire childhood up to my adulthood and I suppose it should be said to never meet your heroes.
To treat me with such disrespect as to block me so callously with no apology - when my family had done nothing but try to support Mark, Sherry, Sunny, their family, and this business and others, is absolutely beyond me. To block me because I have a valid comment and concern as to job discrimination, as well as a valid experience that happened while on the grounds, is unacceptable. But I can see they don't want to be held accountable, they don't want negative publicity (which is exactly what they are creating). It shows the true colors of how not only women are treated if they want to apply for a job here, but how customers are treated, whether they are thinking of coming or have come already.
We won't be coming back because of the discrimination and also because of the invalidation done here - which I'm sure many may think is hilarious because bullying is very popular in Rockbridge County. They act like this situation is laughable. I assure you that Dino Kingdom's response, as well as any bullying responses, makes myself and others even further resolved to either not give this place the business and/or never to return again. And when enough people have negative experiences like I have, you simply run out of customers...and "biggest fans" to support you.
My comment was very simple: "(The employee hired to dress up as Bigfoot) has to be a young man? (I am) not sure if that is fair. (After inquiring at the front desk), I tried to apply for the job as Bigfoot a couple years ago and it was just laughed off (by Mark, who did not take me seriously and rolled his eyes, and called me short). It caused me to not come back to Dino Kingdom because I felt ... Unwanted. Discriminated. (It was not the first time I had felt this way but I tried again and brought my entire family multiple times that summer). Not sure if I can name the feeling. But something didn't sit right with me so we haven't come back."
No apologies, no consideration. No remorse. But they decided to block me, as if that would somehow solve the problem.
I also remember one time my car had a dead battery after a visit here, no one at Dinosaur Kingdom wanted to help me. There were rude employees in the gift shop that made me never to want to go in there and I felt so uncomfortable there. It was incredibly stressful. I have had multiple stressful experiences here and have continued to support Mark Sherry and their family and businesses but to discriminate against me for no apparent reason other than it is not popular to help "outcasts" such as myself, has left me no choice but to no longer support this business. Sexism in the workplace is never okay, but neither is bullying/ostracization/discrimination of any kind. And I'm tired of being kicked to the curb for sharing concerns that are completely valid. My family will no longer be supporting Mark Cline or his family in any way and it pains me to say that but this abuse is...
Read moreYou need to understand that when you go to a place like Dinosaur Kingdom II, you're not going to be wandering around Jurassic Park.
This place is low-budget, quite-possibily set up in the founder's back yard and absolutely awesome.
Don't come here looking for fossils and realism. Come with a camera, some friends and just enjoy the park for what it is in all of its ridiculousness.
The storyline of the park follows what is, supposedly, one of the most embarrassing defeats for the Union during the Civil War. While I didn't follow the story all throughout the walk (there are little plaques by each display) I think I sort of got the gist. Basically the Union found dinosaurs and tried to use them to fight the Confederates but they couldn't control them and had to retreat.
One of the things I love about the park is that it's self-guided and, depending on when you go, pretty empty. So you and your group can take plenty of time walking around, touching the statues, taking pictures and doing pretty much whatever else you would like.
Here are a couple of additional notes/observations I had while walking around:
Parking is plentiful and free.
Tickets cost us $10 a person which, for a group, can get a little bit pricey. Now, I will say it was worth the money, but more for the experience, not the park itself. The walk is probably less than a mile long and you can get through it in 30 minutes no problem.
This place is great for kids and adults. I will mention, there is one place in the park that has a bit of a jump scare (the pulpit vibrates very loudly and suddenly in the church). It's not horrifying by any means, but could scare a kid if they're walking up front.
There are a couple of places (especially the tunnel at the beginning) that could be tough for people with vertigo. The owners built a way around this first section, but be aware it's there.
There's nothing exceptionally gory or gross in the park. Some of the green monster statues that are scattered around the park have pulled out their eyes and stuff, but it's not super graphic.
All in all, this place is awesome. I would consider it a once-in-a-lifetime experience...meaning I probably wouldn't pay to go back, but I'm...
Read moreStep aside Meow Wolf, Dinosaur Kingdom takes the crown. I will start this review with my husband and I visited med week, no children, and had the best time of our life. We are wanderers and have visited many amusement parks, landmarks, historical places, etc. We went and visited Natural Bridge first, it was great but Dinosaur Kingdom took the limelight. The artist that created this place is incredibly creative, imaginative and witty. If you appreciate witty humor, you will absolutely be beyond pleased. Watching the 10 minute video is a must, we are still cracking up at the premise of the park. Also, make sure you see the Bigfoot show. It was just my husband and I at the show and that goodness we used the bathroom before watching because I we were laughing so hard, we for sure would have had an accident. I don't want to give to much info as it was a surprise to use and every turn of that place had something imaginative and hilarious. Do yourself a favor and do not look at the pictures online before you go, you will be grateful you did. We live a few hours away and will be planning out of state visitors to come stay when the park is open because it's that great. I can go on and on forever, just go and make sure you warn the kids that you will want to stay longer than them as there is alot of clean humor that will not be understood by young children but they will have a blast as well. This is the first amusement park we have visited that has an equal amount of amusement for children and adults. If you have a chance to visit, make sure you go and give yourself at least 2 hours to visit. To the artist: well done, It takes alot to impress us artistically and you are at the top!!! Also, we stayed at the hotel in Natural Bridge and your life-size ad for haunted tour in Lexington scared the living daylights out of us going in the entry door, lol. Now we know that was by design, well done. We can' t wait to take your haunted tour in the fall and we usually pass on guided tours. You are a true...
