Southmont Park — Attraction in Lexington

Nice walking path, splash pad for kids, swings for kids, restrooms, multiple purpose court for basketball. 2 Pickleball courts painted on multi purpose court... pretty much useless unless you have own nets... even then with nets you have no fence to stop the balls... this will prevent 99% fieldof those who play pickleball from ever using these courts. There is a baseball field and a sand volleyball court. The park could be much better if the Davidson County commissioners would make their Parks and Recreation more of a priority than an after thought. Even as bare minimum as this particular park is...it's better than 90% of other parts of the county that have no Parks. ..there needs to be a combined fire district and Recreation tax. This way perhaps we could catch up with Rowan, Forsyth and Guildford instead of having 3rd world parks like this one..to serve the residents of Davidson County. If commissioners want to attract top industry... you need to have nice Parks...low county tax rate=substandard amenities for residents... more dollars stores. Don't brag about a low tax rate... when you offer little else for residents...

We recently moved to this area, and look for scenic places to go on dog walks. I drove to this park, got my dog out, and the first thing I see is the sign ''Pets not allowed on trail or any field.'' It is such a disappointment seeing this anti-dog attitude, coming from another city where all parks are open to dogs, with owners requested to pick up after their animals. I always carry plastic bags for this purpose. I don't know how a county can build a park with public funds, and then exclude a significant population from...

Simple, clean park. Nice splash pad, multiple use court with nice basketball goals. I saw some folks playing mini tennis on it with a wiffleball. Game had strange name. Nice volleyball sand court, walking track, small picnic area...
