Our recent visit to Loon Mountain Resort for Avyan’s skiing lessons was disappointing and far from what we expected. Despite Avyan already having a certain level of skiing ability, he was placed in a group with complete beginners. Even the first trainer acknowledged this mismatch but admitted that her group consisted of kids at varying skill levels and she didn’t know how to manage the situation effectively. By the time we raised concerns and spoke to multiple staff members, half the day had already been wasted, leaving Avyan with minimal skiing experience until noon.
However, I must say that the last trainer (Coco) Avyan had was very good. He was highly professional, thorough in his approach, and clearly experienced in training kids. His efforts helped soothe our frustration toward the end of the day and made a small positive impact on an otherwise disappointing experience.
Additionally I realized that on mountain staffs were more friendly, helpful and welcoming. There are huge fleet of staffs and they are ready to help you with any questions or concerns. It’s very easy to find a staff member.
Another frustrating incident involved Avyan’s ski boots. We had rented boots for him from a local store and needed some help putting them on since, as parents, we are not experienced in skiing. The staff at Loon insisted the boots were too small and persuaded us to rent a larger size from them. However, upon returning to our local store, the original boots were confirmed to be the correct size. The store owner even demonstrated how to wear them comfortably. It became clear that the Loon staff, being professionals, should have known this but seemed more interested in pushing their rentals for profit. This felt deceitful and unprofessional.
The overall experience was further diminished by the overcrowding. The resort appeared to have sold an unlimited number of day passes, leading to significant delays. At one point, it took over 45 minutes just to access the magic carpet, making it clear that the focus was more on maximizing revenue than ensuring a good experience for families.
On a positive note, I also participated in a beginner group lesson for myself, and my trainer (Paul) was outstanding. He was professional, patient, and genuinely cared about his students. Despite being a slow learner, he consistently encouraged me, built my confidence, and provided me with ample time to practice. His supportive and understanding approach made my first skiing experience truly enjoyable. I would give my trainer a 10/10 for his exceptional efforts and dedication.
Overall, while some aspects of our visit were positive, the group lesson for Avyan felt like a waste of money, and the unprofessional behavior from certain staff members left us feeling cheated. Loon Mountain Resort needs to prioritize customer experience and professionalism over profits to...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Loon Mtn. I had previously heard all great things about the resort here, specifically the grooming of the snow.
The experience out group of 6 people had was the exact opposite of what we had heard. While having taken all necessary steps in advance such as purchasing tickets, rental equipment and leaving at an appropriate time to ensure we arrived early to the location, we were met with 2+ hr stand still traffic leading to the mountain, overly full parking lots, excessively crowded trails, and poorly groomed, if not at all, trails with multiple snow mounds making conditions unnecessarily difficult to snowboard/ski in.
Its understandable that parking lots can get full, however there was absolutely no level of proper communication/updates regarding parking or where else to park. Nothing posted on the website, nothing verbalized to us by staff (aside from the lot they’re covering being full) and they had no knowledge of whether the other lots were also full and if they did, it wasn’t communicated.
It took 2+ hours to reach the first lot, where we were told it was full and were RUSHED to unload our belongings, the staff member there verbatim said “you have 15 seconds to unload and get out of here”. Unacceptable. Perhaps either a designated unloading station or redirection if one exists, could have been created or suggested.
After unloading, 2 people in our party had to spend another 2+ hours to go to the next lot down (as we were told) to once again be told the lot is full and ultimately find parking in a Price Chopper parking lot 3 miles away and then locate a shuttle to bring them back. A total of 4-6 hours spent in parking alone. Ridiculous.
In addition, we went through all of that to finally head down the trails to discover the trails had either been poorly groomed or not groomed at all, making conditions much more difficult for green and blue paths which are primarily used for those still learning. The location clearly oversold and enabled the facility to become overcrowded. Imagine spending $200 for a day ticket and rental equipment, to spend half the day parking, less than half the day actually being able to ski/snowboard and to top it off, the trail conditions are terrible. It’s beyond ridiculous. My group and I wont be returning and we’ll be sure to inform our friends and others of the unfortunate but clear decline in the quality and efficiency of this facility.
The facility would benefit from communication checkpoints in between commonly used lots where cars/traffic can be informed of full lots and alternative parking locations. This would allow for more efficiency in parking communications and enable guests to park faster, reduce traffic congestion and make it to the lodge much quicker. Also set an actual cap limit on the number of guests to avoid the same overcrowding. A lot of work...
Read moreI recently visited Loon Mountain during the peak of winter, and it was like stepping into a snow-covered paradise. As a skiing enthusiast, I was particularly excited to explore the slopes, and Loon did not disappoint.
Skiing Experience: Loon Mountain's ski trails are a dream come true for anyone from beginners to advanced skiers. The mountain boasts a diverse range of trails that cater to all skill levels. I spent most of my time on the blue runs, which were perfectly groomed with just the right amount of challenge to keep the adrenaline pumping. The lift system is efficient, minimizing wait times, which maximized my time on the slopes.
Snow Quality: The snow conditions were impeccable during my visit. Fresh powder covered the landscape, making for some fantastic skiing. Loon’s snowmaking and grooming teams do an outstanding job maintaining the trails, ensuring optimal skiing conditions even when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.
Atmosphere and Scenery: Skiing down the trails, surrounded by majestic snow-covered pines and panoramic mountain views, was exhilarating. The beauty of the White Mountains in winter is unmatched. Riding the gondola to the summit provided breathtaking vistas of the surrounding area, blanketed in white. It’s a serene and invigorating environment that makes you appreciate the crisp mountain air and the natural beauty of New Hampshire.
Après-Ski: After a day on the slopes, the warmth of the base lodge was a welcome comfort.
