Today was the 35th White Memorial Foundation Family Nature Day and it was attended by more than 1300 people, mostly children accompanied by a parent. Go to their website for the list of events. I guarantee you will be amazed. It's the single best annual event for children and parents to learn and connect with nature in a fun and educational environment in Litchfield County Connecticut. There are over 4,000 acres of land and more than 450? miles of hiking trails and a couple of camping areas.

Additionally, they have an incredible and interactive nature museum, live rescued birds of prey, and astronomy observatory building with a fantastic telescope. There is so much more I just can't remember. 😱...

Membership is not a requirement but if you live within 50 miles you should definitely join and help support this one-of-a-kind private nature center. There's nothing like...

Set in picturesque Litchfield, White Memorial is a beautiful place for anyone to enjoy, free of charge. There are a plethora of things to do there, such as hiking, biking, fishing, picnicking, bird watching, and the like. There is ample parking, picnic tables, marked trails, outhouses, a boardwalk, and so much more. If you're hungry, there's wonderful eateries in the area as well. And if it's a hot summer day, you have to stop by Arethusa for some farm fresh ice cream that is absolutely delicious. And while you're there, don't forget to grab the World's Best Blue Cheese (2018 World Champion Cheese Contest Winners), it just melts in your mouth with just the right amount of bite to it. With that said, there's plenty to explore in the area, so...

Met up with friends and had a great time! We were nervous with young kids (19 months - 7 yrs old) and what to expect, but it was perfect for them without being too overwhelming for the parents to handle. Delightful surprises throughout including the beehive and gem cave. A nice little trip for all ages and of course very reasonable priced entry while also knowing you are supporting a wonderful local cause! The museum also includes a small play area for kids with books, puzzles, and more and the grounds outside include picnic tables, a pond, and connects to the WM trails. Plenty of space for kids to run around outside while parents can easily keep an eye on them. Will absolutely be bringing the...

A very wonderful place to hike, explore, and learn! I love the museum attractions like the birds of prey exhibit as well as the pet snake and turtle they keep inside. Ongley pond behind the museum is also beautiful as I always see many turtles and ducks there. My favorite attraction here is the ice house trail and observation deck. Seeing the old foundation and canal for the ice house is remarkable, and the views of Bantam Lake can’t be beat! The Butternut Brook trail is also very interesting since you can see the back of the Litchfield Distillery from the trail. Their sensory nature trail and kayak launch is also worth a try. Can’t say enough good things about this place!

40 miles of well maintained trails through forests and around multiple ponds, streams, a lake and a river. Some trails are just for hiking while others allow bikes and horses. Kayaking also allowed in the waterways. All free and open year round. There is a $6 fee if you want to visit the nature museum. It is a great little museum with taxidermied native animals in dioramas as well as exhibits of geology, astronomy, ecology, biology etc. Lots of live wildlife to view from the boardwalks. Picnic benches are also available to use for free. There is also a marina and campgrounds that I did not visit on my first outing here.
