Decent place to hike that's very accessible to Livermore and Pleasanton. There is little shade and at times feels like you're strolling through a Mars landscape (packed gravel). The first mile is an ascent gets your heart going but the view is rewarding. If you continue, there are a few trail options that offer a small section of shade as it approaches the lake shore. I walked the trail for a couple miles but would be fun to ride as well. The trail goes for miles which makes it great for beginners as well as someone looking to test their limits (trail runners?). The best times to hike to avoid crowds, heat and wind is in the earlier mornings (6:30 - 8ish), though only once have I encountered an issue with parking availability in the main lot, regardless of time of day, pre-covid or otherwise. There are porta-potties just inside the main gate (please close the gate behind you 😀) from the lot, as well as a dog-level spout on the water fountain. I love this place. They seem to be working on improving the bathrooms. They have the entire parking lot closed. In my opinion they don't need all that room. But we are left to park on the street. There is room for cars to park along the side, but there is no parking signs up everywhere. Which scares a lot of people and some have received parking tickets. It seems like a little over kill.
