Decent place to hike that's very accessible to Livermore and Pleasanton. There is little shade and at times feels like you're strolling through a Mars landscape (packed gravel). The first mile is an ascent gets your heart going but the view is rewarding. If you continue, there are a few trail options that offer a small section of shade as it approaches the lake shore. I walked the trail for a couple miles but would be fun to ride as well. The trail goes for miles which makes it great for beginners as well as someone looking to test their limits (trail runners?). I'll be going back for sure but bringing more sunscreen and a sombrero.

Del Valle Arroyo Staging Area is a nice place to start your hike or mountain biking, but as you cross the creek you will need to hike up about a half mile or so up a steeper dirt fire road to the first hill summit. The views from the top.are worth it, but take your time. After the summit the trails continue and the fire road does to, with views of the Livermore Valley one one side and Del Valle lake on the other.

The main path starts relatively flat as it crosses Arroyo Valle but then climbs up 400' to the ridge top @ 1000'. Took us 45 minutes round trip from the parking lot to the bench at the top. There are trails that go around the reservoir that you can take from there. The lot was close to full for a Wednesday late afternoon during the CV19 crisis, but there was no problem with crowding on the trail.

This is where to park to hike the trails of the back side of Del Valle. The best times to hike to avoid crowds, heat and wind is in the earlier mornings (6:30 - 8ish), though only once have I encountered an issue with parking availability in the main lot, regardless of time of day, pre-covid or otherwise. There are porta-potties just inside the main gate (please close the gate behind you 😀) from the lot, as well as a dog-level spout on the water fountain. Note the fountain has been shut for 1y during covid. There's also a trough and spigot for...

I love this place. They seem to be working on improving the bathrooms. They have the entire parking lot closed. In my opinion they don't need all that room. But we are left to park on the street. There is room for cars to park along the side, but there is no parking signs up everywhere. Which scares a lot of people and some have received parking tickets. It seems like a little over kill. I would hope EBParks would use some common sense in safety for there project and user access to the such a popular area. None of which seems to be in...
