Just started playing golf in 2020 and fell in love. Each year I try to play somewhere nice for my birthday. Last year was Halfmoon Bay. This year I chose Wente. If you come here Mon-Thu and bring 3 other players paying full price, your bday golf is free. I brought my wife and 6 other friends to play.
I've been golfing all over the bay area and I was definitely not ready for the level or service here.
Right when we parked our car got out and opened our trunk, the staff rolled up in a golf cart, asked us our tee time and how many players. He gave us a golf cart and a few seconds later brought us a 2nd golf cart. Carts were equipped with GPS and a side mounted cooler. Talk about service.
We checked in at the clubhouse and were given a sack of golf balls about 25 for each person (which was included). They also had a cooler filled bottles of water near the staff station for us to take with us. We drove thru the vineyard and up the hill to their grass driving range (no turf here). (halfmoon bay doesn't even have a driving range). Warmed up, headed back down and finished our warm up with some chips and putts. They were ahead of schedule so they let us go a few mins early.
We drove to our first tee and there was a staff person explaining everything about the course and how to use the GPS. The tee box yardages are updated every time they change the pin, so it's on point. They told us they use the 90 degree cart rule. Which is a slightly modified version, once you enter the fairway you can stay on until you have to exit. There are black and white poles that identify entry and exit points.
There is a bar cart going around. The conditions of the greens were amazing, there were many elevation changes, the course variety was awesome, the whole entire place was just a blast to play. The views were spectacular.
It was 95 degrees the day we played and I thought we would be roasting but there was a constant breeze which really helped keep us cool, and made the game a bit more interesting.
As we were finishing up our putts on the 18th hole, the staff was at our carts wiping down our clubs! Like I said before, service was just top notch.
Before playing here I was kind of regretting my decision for choosing Wente because of the heat, and thought maybe I should have played somewhere along the coast instead, but after our experience I'm really glad we played here. We will be...
Read moreI played an NCGA event here a few weeks ago and it's a slice of heaven for a golfer that is a golf course design and landscape lover. A beautiful setting in the Livermore wine country. This Greg Norman design doesn't dissapoint. It's a great layout that is challenging but very fair, and has a tee position for every level of golfer. Very well maintained, though when we played the greens were verticut, a little bumpy and the course was pretty wet. I could only assume it was kept wet for the very hot dry afternoons. It's a great test of golf with every hole having an aesthetically pleasing view.
The golf shop and staff were nice, but like most golf shops these days, fashion sense has gone out the door and every golf shirt looks like you are signing up for a trip to the circus if you purchase it. Solid colors please.
After our round we went to the grill and the staff was very professional and kind without making you feel like the hospitality is fake. I had the Fish n Chips and it was awesome. The chef made a side of cocktail sauce for us that he should bottle and sell!
It was such an enjoyable experience. I look forward to returning to The Course at...
Read moreBeautiful place!!!!!! I recently went here for a company wide party and the overall experience was great! I opted to play a round of golf instead of wine tasting and games. The course had some killer views and I love how certain holes were hidden within the nearby hills. Plus, the driving range had a killer view of the entire place. As for the staff, they were 10/10. Extremely nice and always looking to help out while still not being all up in your face. aka they seemed genuine which is a major plus! The weather was also amazing. It maxed out at around 95 degrees but I was never drying in the sun (maybe because of all the ice cold beer we were slugging). As for the rest of my experience, the food was good (not great) and you selections were limited but I bet that has to do with our companies decision on what to serve. Also I heard the wine class that was offered as an activity was horrible . I heard it was a power point which would piss me off (note, I did not experience this, my co-workers told me). Overall I had an amazing experience and would definitely jump at a chance to play...
