What a gem of a place. Certainly one of the best wine tasting experiences we've had. Showed up on a lark, indicated we'd do the wine tasting selection to Kate, then were instructed to have a seat out in the beautiful garden. A few minutes later, Kate shows up with our glasses and does our first pour while explaining the wine and the vineyard. It was the perfect amount of information - enough detail to appreciate what we were drinking without being overwhelmed with vine speak/minutia (as it turns out, Kate is extremely knowledgeable vis-a-vis her vineyard, the wines and their history, the ground's orchards, etc. but is astute enough to gauge her audience and their capacity for more information). Rinse and repeat...Kate would track our consumption and magically show up when we were ready for the next pour - we never left our seats. In addition, she proffered a sixth pour at no extra charge (ironically, this wine turned out to be our favorite). Along these lines - a large family came in who were new to the wine tasting thing. Kate told them to walk around the grounds and then come back for a free pour as a tester to dip their toe in the water, explaining that she didn't want them to pay for something they may not enjoy. That, my friends, is a class act. It gets better. We went to settle accounts, Kate swiped our credit card, then selected 'No Tip' before turning it over for me to sign. Was absolutely stunned in this day and age requiring a tip for breathing in an establishment. If anyone deserved one, she did (being in shock, am ashamed to say I just signed and failed to tip - Kate I owe you one next time). We'll be back - recommend others do likewise. You will not be disappointed. If I could give it a...
Read moreCate is, without a doubt, the heart and soul of Buttonwood Winery. Her presence alone elevates the entire experience — warm, gracious, and incredibly knowledgeable, she embodies everything that makes this winery so special. Her passion for wine is evident in every word she speaks, and her deep expertise makes each tasting feel like a masterclass wrapped in a conversation with a dear friend.
Without Cate, there simply is no Buttonwood. She brings life, energy, and authenticity to the vineyard — making every guest feel welcomed, seen, and right at home. It’s rare to meet someone so genuine and generous with their time and knowledge. What an extraordinary human being. Visiting Buttonwood is always a joy, but getting to spend time with Cate makes it unforgettable.
Now about the Winery: This is my second time at the winery and I was thrilled to have the pleasure of having Cate present the wines, who not only provided exceptional service, but also when above and beyond to educate me and our friends with the various varietals for tasting. Not only are the wines exquisite, but the atmosphere in the back garden is charming and a lovely sanctuary. It’s evident that Buttonwood takes great pride in creating an enjoyable experience.
I left Buttonwood feeling relaxed and enriched by the wonderful experience. Cate’s professionalism, expertise, and genuine enthusiasm are a true testament to the excellence of Buttonwood.
Thank you Cate for an amazing experience. I look forward...
Read moreI had an outstanding experience at Buttonwood Farm Winery and Vineyard! First, it was so easy to get to and so close to downtown Solvang (maybe a two-minute drive?). The grounds are quite picturesque and there was plenty of parking close to the tasting room. Second, and this is the most important part of all, each of the five wines that were served as part of their wine tasting service, were EXCEPTIONAL! Seriously! I must admit that I am very picky when it comes to wine and I was a little apprehensive after having just gone to a wine tasting at another Santa Ynez Valley winery not too far from Buttonwood that was truly awful (all 5 samples were honestly some of the worst wines I've had in my life). As soon as I had my first taste of the 2022 Buttonwood Grenache Blanc (wine #1 of 5 of their "Classic Tasting" flight), I knew I was in for a treat! The host’s description of each wine was spot on and I found myself savoring each drop. I was so impressed with all of the wines I tasted that I joined the Buttonwood Wine Club and also purchased a few bottles to take with me to enjoy prior to my first shipment. I highly recommend the Grenache Blanc and my other favorite is the 2020 Trevin (so delicious and so unique. Tastes unlike any other red I’ve ever had). Overall, 5 stars for Buttonwood! Make sure to add it to your list of wineries to visit when you...
