Mount Assisi Gardens — Attraction in Loretto

Truly a jewel and so glad I happened to see an article about this venue. We were already in Johnstown and this garden is only about a 40 minute drive away. Charles M. Schwabb, the steel magnate (as opposed to Charles R Schwabb, the finance guy) built a mansion here to be used as his summer estate. Today it is owned by Friars and not open to the public but the grounds upon which it lies is open and free. Absolutely a true hidden gem. I was the only one there, so I got to enjoy the entire garden myself. So peaceful, tranquil, and beautiful. I got to light some prayer candles in the shrine room. Excellent spot for phographers as there is so much beautiful scenery. If you are ever driving through RT 422, this is a great pit stop for some peace and quiet. Loads of interesting statues, too! One of the most beautiful sights in the area. If you are visiting locally, it is with seeing the gardens. If your are Catholic, there is even more for you.
