The pier is one of our favorite destinations for a quick trip to the ocean in San Pedro.
The beach on the right side of the pier Is facing the open ocean. The beach on the left side is facing the Marina and port of LA.
It’s fun to play in the sand or go surfing. The sand itself is dark; almost black.
There are plenty of parking lots. You can find restrooms and grassy areas with picnic table at the entrance to the pier. The restrooms can be a bit gross at times.
Parking is $1/hour. Meters accept credit cards.
Visitors tend to be nice to each other. I received a non expired parking ticket from someone who left early; twice in 1 month. Thank you...

Read moreNice place to hangout, fish, picnic etc. I've seen people diving around here as well and spearfishing. Great place and environment. Otherwise we've caught a bunch of spotted bass, crabs, rays, and even horned sharks here. Others have caught mackerel and halibut.
Just be wary, they do close all car entrances around 10:30pm, and you will be locked in, so be sure not to stay too late.
No fishing license needed...
