The jewel of LA! Whenever I leave the state for work or the country for play, it's one of the first things I miss. That and good street tacos. They put in parking meters when you get closer today observatory, but at least they brought the ridiculous hourly rate down. I remember it being $15 an hour a few years ago, and it's now $10 an hour. I've seen some websites still say it's a dollar an hour, which I don't think it's ever been since they put in the meters. The views are amazing. The Event Horizon Theater is fabulous and free. It's got a moon rock, it's got meteors, it's got a bitchen old Zeiss telescope, it has a sensitive seismograph set up that you can jump up and down in front of it, and watch the needle move. There are plenty of hiking trails from easy to challenging. And a ways a great view no matter what the weather conditions are. Smelly trees, pretty flowers, critters if you look hard, and lots of glorious california terrain. Much of the observatory is free of charge. The money they charge for the planetarium is totally worth it. The cafeteria prices are pretty steep, and they don't price for dish, but by ounce. The jeweled and rhinestone walls down the walkway could take a whole day to look at and never get boring. Staff has always been out of sight. They are always so nice and helpful. The tesla coil it's worth waiting for they need staff to show it, and it usually isn't too much of a wait if you ask. It saddens me that down in the park, the carousel is no longer running. That alone was one of the reasons I became a Friend of Griffith Park contributor. The gift of Griffith J. Griffith to Los Angeles is the largest urban park in the United States. And because it isn't a Federal park, we probably will be okay. Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt are doing somersaults in their graves about the federal cuts and overall lack of care of our parks and environment in general by the current administration. As the trees sway with the storm,...
