Northlake Nature Center — Attraction in Louisiana

Such a hidden treasure! From the road it looks small so I always thought it only had one trail. Last week my daughter and I decided we wanted to go on a short walk so we decided to go here. It was amazing! There are so many trails and some of them make you feel like you are walking through a rain forest. It was really neat! The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the map is not updated. There are several trails that are not on the map. Also, once you enter the trails there are no signs showing you which direction to walk to exit back to your car and with the map not being updated it was a challenge to find the right direction. We also followed the canoe put in signs for a while to see where we could put our kyacks in the next time we came but had to leave because it was getting dark and never found it. This nature trail needs to be updated, the trail map is very confusing and trails are not marked very well. My husband and I just spent 3 hours lost on these trails, then we had to walk 2 miles from the pelican park ball fields, onto Route 190, back to the parking lot. We asked 3 people where the Northlake Nature Center was at and none of them had heard about this place. Would be a nice place if they would update it and mark the trails better with different colored markers. We started on South trail which said 1.2 miles, so we figured 30 minutes of walking time. That didn't happen, somehow ended on North trail, we kept walking and walking, getting nowhere. I almost was going to call 911, because we brought no water with us and I felt dehydrated and I have a bad right foot that gives out from too much walking. These are just trails nothing else. Randomly came across this FREE hidden gem on our way to FL. We just wanted a spot to stretch our legs hella quick and possibly take advantage of some picturesque nature…. And this place surpassed ALL our expectations!!! I can confidently say this place IS THE BEST nature center ive ever experienced, Unlike the plethora of others I’ve come across… truly Nothing can even begin to compare to the secluded romantic untouched perfection
