I have just graduated from Gwynedd in the fall of 2021. When I first started, I was terrified. What college freshman wouldn't be scared? It was a brand new environment and I didn't know anyone. After a few weeks I felt right at home and now, 3.5 years later, I couldn't be happier with my decision to attend Gwynedd. The school has given me amazing opportunities to expand my knowledge in a family-oriented environment. The professors truly care about each student's success no matter what course and they're more than willing to help students get the help they need. Advisors are awesome as well. If it weren't for my advisor, I wouldn't have pushed myself as hard and I wouldn't have graduated early.
I will never regret my decision to attend Gwynedd for many reasons. The school gave me everything I could've possibly wanted and needed. As a commuter, the location was perfect. The drive was no more than 30 minutes and the area around Gwynedd is comfortable. Gwynedd is primarily commuters and I think they did a really great job of making sure those students were involved with as much as possible. Events are held in the afternoon or evening so commuters have the option to participate and join in the fun. Gwynedd did an amazing job at providing the college experience to commuters while they also having the comfort of their own home. Overall, it was the best of both worlds.
I also had the privilege of being a student-athlete at GMercyU. As a D3 school, Gwynedd offers an incredible opportunity for students to perform well academically while participating in the sport they love. The coaches each play a huge role in the success of the student-athlete body by monitoring grades, attendance, and participation. They're completely understanding when students need to focus on their classwork and they acknowledge that academics come first. Gwynedd places much emphasis on the athletes to help keep the school spirit up. Each team is extremely supportive of the others and they are always more than willing to help out with school events.
My time at Gwynedd has been part of the best 3.5 years of my life. Everyone on campus, whether it's students, faculty, or staff, is extremely welcoming and friendly. The campus community is one big family and I'm extremely thankful to have been a part of that. There are so many ways to get involved on campus, from athletics to clubs to honor societies. There's truly something for everyone here and I highly recommend...
Read moreThere was no reason to have stayed at Gwynedd for as long as I did. I only did it for athletics. Funny thing is, even my coaches left too. The first week of school I laid in bed looking at the ceiling thinking "I've got to get out of here". My second semester, half of the freshman class had transferred, something that happens every fall semester when students find out what they walked into. Why? Outside of the classroom and your Xbox360, there is nothing you can do or walk to. You will find that everyone leaves on the weekend making this place a very poor environment to gain positive social experiences and grow. What social cliques that do exist you will find to be very catty. Ofcourse, this is everywhere, but in such a small environment it will directly affect you/your child. All things aside, nursing here is pretty great. Because of it's size, there is a lot of intimacy and little breathing room at this school. You will find yourself knowing about the successes and perils of people whom you don't even talk to, and they will be doing the same for you. In that sense, it is very much like a highschool atmosphere. This atmosphere is discouraging a student to be them-self and do what they want. A strong lack in ACTIVE clubs / organizations / diversity is proof of that. This is not the school's fault directly -- but the rapidly diminishing size of the student body. used to have long hard talks with a well trusted professor of mine who explicitly agreed that the move to "Gwynedd-Mercy UNIVERSITY" is nothing more than a ploy to bait the uninformed. The rationale behind going from college to university was because they 1. Put up a new building on campus with comfortable chairs and air conditioning, 2. Are doing some basic research. I currently go to a "College" that does 50x the research and higher education done at Gwynedd and they find no reason to become a "University". Stay away from this school, it is expensive, toxic, and will pollute a lot more than...
Read moreI love how the campus is off on its own and a lot of the teachers iv had are very nice. but nursing program is very hard and the teachers in the program are rude, only a few are nice. I ask questions all the time and they tell me I should know it and don't answer me. The teachers don't wanna work with students who take a while to understand the material, they rather work with kids who already know it and are very smart. Also speaking with many juniors, they have told me that their nursing class started with 200 students sophomore year and by junior year 100 kids dropped out. I don't know if the school thinks this is good cause they're left with the best but half the class dropping out just for being in junior year is not something to be proud of. This program thinks its the best but there are a lot of flaws and it seriously has a ton to work on to make it better starting with teachers who actually want to teach students that don't understand the material as well instead of ignoring them.
ex: we were in nursing lab in groups practicing on each other what we had just learned. The teachers were walking around for assistance and the main nursing teacher, Ms Watters, came in and I asked her if she could briefly show me how to do it correctly (since everyone in my group was doing it differently I didn't wanna ask them). She said to me with an attitude "I just went over this you should know it." I was shocked that she said that to me and the rest of the group was too. The one girl quickly defended me and said "well its hard to see what your performing when there's 30 kids in the lab at once" then Ms Watters said " oh well then I guess I can show you" this right here is the reason why my whole confidence in nursing was shot, she made me feel like I can never ask a question. After that semester I quite the program. In that moment where she basically said no to answering my question, my...
