Love that you can drive right up. Pet friendly. First look it beautiful. Open sky and blue water, hot white sand and beautiful rock structure but then as you get closer to the water the sand becomes very pebbley and even worse there was dead horseshoe crabs everywhere. There was dozens of them from high tide and as we watched the water roll in and out (we were there around 2pm) there must have been another 2 dozen that washed up. Its was extremely hot with no breeze so we wanted to put our toes in the water and there was just random horseshoe crab body parts everywhere. Being that we were on vacation and made plans to go to this beach we decide to make the best of it. We put down our beach towels and sat down. Within minutes i was being bite by some sort of insect that was literally leaving drops of blood dripping down my leg. Needless to say we didnt stay long. Beautiful but Very disappointing.

After a day a boozing it up with Perrier water and Natural Steak treats I approve of this place. Plenty of spots to poop and pee. Excellent place to dig holes in the sand and the “Hoomans” can stay there watching me and catering to my dog needs. I did require a cabana tent , umbrella, beach towel and plenty of water. Bring your Hooman servants they can enjoy it. No cats please it’s not that type of a beach.

Gorgeous free beach with free parking. No lifeguards. Clean. Quiet. Beautiful. Soft sand with beautiful pebbles and rocks that wash in with the waves. Small waves - no major rip curls or undertow. Dog friendly. Drinking friendly. Kite friendly. Fishing friendly. My new go to! Conveniently located 2 hours from Philadelphia.

Higbee Beach is a beautiful, natural beach area. It is secluded and fairly private. There are hardly any crowds. Yes, there are horseshoe crabs on the beach seasonally. No, there are no life guards. We locals like it this way. If you want a beach that is raked clean every morning, and with life guards, buy a beach tag elsewhere and endure the tourist crowds. The West end of the beach, toward the canal and Ferry Terminal, is where families enjoy the (usually) calm Delaware Bay waters. The Eastern half of the beach, toward Sunset Beach and the ocean, is where you are likely to encounter nude sun bathers - not a good place to bring your children. Everyone here is generally respectful and friendly. A great place to bring your dog as well. Also a great place to anchor your boat and enjoy the dolphins and...
