The past two years I have had the opportunity to drive a couple school field trips to Cold Spring Village and was thankful that after all these years of seeing the signs for it I was finally going to get to see just what it was like. I have always enjoyed seeing restored villages such as Cold Spring, Batsto, Williamsburg Va as well as others up and down the east coast so when I was able to check one out that is only an hour away from home it was a good thing. Since I wanted to see as much of the village as I could I only saw small parts of the actors history lessons but of those I saw I was impressed with their knowledge of not only the village but a lot of Cape May County. I have actually thought about getting a membership as the individual price is not that bad especially when you compare it to how much money you can waste on the boardwalk where the only thing you learn is just how expensive and hard it is to play one of those claw machines or whatever the latest attraction is.
Since I have only been down during the week in the late spring I don't know how crowded they get here on a weekend but if you are in the area and looking for something nice and relaxed to do then I think this would be a good spot to check out and take a nice leisurely stroll through a quieter time that is not so clogged up with the...
Read moreWe visited about 2 weeks ago and were not impressed. Maybe because it was a weekday in the summer so there were no events going on. The blacksmith was closed so it was really just all bunch of old buildings. Looking at the website I expected there to be more to do. We found this listed on Bring Fido which highlights places that are dog friendly. While it is dog friendly in that you can bring your dog, you can only walk the outside grounds with them. They are not allowed in any of the buildings, not even if they are a small dog and you pick them up. For us, this meant one person could go into the building and look around and someone had to stay outside with the dog and then that person went in by themselves. We’ve been going to Cape May for 25 years and had never been here. We only went this time because we thought it was something we could do with our dog who is small, well behaved and loves to be included in things. We would never go back there again. They should not advertise themselves on Bring Fido because it’s not an accurate representation of what they offer. We paid $16 each to go through and were only there ...
Read moreThis review is based strictly on the MICROBREWERY, not the living museum. For starters, we arrived shortly after Google maps stated they were closed for the day, which was 4pm. The brewery is open until 8pm (on Wed), so we jetted off to see the Cape May lighthouse first, and returned about 6pm. Nice, attractive place, cool bartender informed us that the museum wasn't even open regularly yet for the season, so even if we were earlier, we would have missed out. Anyway, it was worth stopping. Nice comfy, country-homey interior, live entertainment posted for some days, and tables and a fire pit outside. Dogs welcome outside as well. They offer different sizes and sample flights of their own brews, the 4 we tried were super tasty, we took some home! They also offer a nice selection of T shirts and other things for sale. Small snacks are available, but no "real food." At this point I'm not sure what the living museum would offer when they are open, so make sure to check, or plan to dine out before or after. Oh, and they are nonprofit, they support the living...
