A Day at the Lion Country Safari – A Roaring Summer Adventure!

It was an exceptionally hot and sunny day, but we were all set for an unforgettable experience at Lion Country Safari, Florida’s only drive-through safari and adventure park.

The Safari Drive-Through

We began our journey with the signature safari ride, included in our ticket. This is also known as the “Trail”, a roughly 5‑mile drive through the wildlife preserve. The trail is divided into about seven main sections, each built to simulate a different African ecosystem .

According to their audio tour narration, the trail features themed areas including: Las Pampas Ruaha National Park Kalahari Bushveldt Gir Forest (Part 1) Gorongosa Reserve (Lions) Gir Forest (Part 2) Serengeti Plains Hwange National Park (Part 1 – Rhinos & Zebras) Hwange National Park (Part 2 – Chimpanzees, Gibbons & Giraffe)

That’s nine distinct narrated stops, which may be collectively referred to as eleven audio segments depending on how part‑splits are counted. As you drive through each section, you’re guided by narrated facts and stories about the animals and habitats — making it educational as well as scenic. Many animals, including giraffes, antelope, and zebras, roam freely and sometimes cross the road. Other species, like lions or apes, remain safely separated by fences or moats .

The Adventure Park Trail

Once the safari ended, there was still much more to see. From the parking area, where we entered the walk‑through adventure park — a whole different experience packed with activities.

As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the restaurants and gift shop, perfect for grabbing a snack or souvenir before diving into the rides and attractions.

Fun Rides for All Ages

The ride section had something for everyone: • Flying Elephants — a classic spinning ride the kids loved. • A Horse Carousel that added a whimsical fairground feel. • A Scenic Boat Ride through a small lake, where we spotted colorful birds and playful monkeys on an island. • A Miniature Train Ride, gently chugging through the park — ideal for resting those tired feet while still exploring.

Animals, Encounters, and Feeding Zones

The petting zoo and bird aviary brought us up close to friendly goats, sheep, and exotic birds. There was even a Giraffe Feeding Station, where you could hand‑feed these gentle giants — a definite highlight!

Do note: Animal feed isn’t included in your ticket and must be purchased at each feeding station (around $5 per portion, usually a bundle of fresh salad greens or pellets).

Cooling Off & Comfort

Despite the heat, the park had water mist stations and drinking fountains scattered throughout, helping guests stay cool and hydrated. We appreciated those little comforts in the blazing sun.

Animal Welfare & Observations

While most enclosures felt spacious and well‑maintained, we couldn’t help but notice the alligators or crocodiles had very limited space compared to the other animals. It seemed unfair, especially given Florida’s natural ecosystem. We hope the park reconsiders and offers these reptiles more naturalistic habitats in the future.

One of the most unique animals we saw was a squirrel monkey with bright yellow limbs — curious, playful, and full of personality. And of course, the park proudly featured the pink Florida flamingos, adding a tropical touch to the zoo area.

Cleanliness & Staff

This was, hands down, the cleanest animal facility we’ve ever visited. There was no smell, the animals looked healthy, and every area was well‑kept. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, ready to answer questions and keep things running smoothly.

Convenience Features

For added convenience, the park had a gas station on‑site and even offered a free EV charger (a slow one, but still a thoughtful touch for...

I was hosting my 8yr old nephew, who is a delightful high-functioning autistic fellow & decided the clasdic Lion Country Safari would be the perfect place to spend our day! This is a wonderful place to bring someone with "special considerations." My Alzheimers mom enjoyed it too, years ago. You can use your cell phone or - my preference - they loan you a wonderful cd to listen to as you meander along the self-drive safari park. A great appropriate-accent tour expert (with music from Africa too) guides you through each area of the Safari. Delightful stories of the individual animals - and their names! - accompany general information and fascinating facts of the wildlife you're able to stop and enjoy. As well, courtesy driving tips are mentioned so we can all be mindful of the park residents....& the other drivers! You can take your time, enjoy, discuss, move slightly for the Best Shot. It is perfect for someone who needs a little more attention. Or if mobility is an issue. Inside your car, the AC is cranked up, beverages, food & meds are handy, window & door locks are set. Absolutely Ideal. The walkabout park area is great too! My favorite is being able to actually feed a giraffe! Mom's too. The nephew was good for one leaf. He was tickled as well at the gumball machines full of animal kibble for the savvy fish, herons & ducks conveniently hanging around! Maps - in your hand & posted - plus signs are helpful for you see everything. (I suggest to the park they try using the colorful animal tracks already found here & there to help guide you to the different destinations. Works in Europran zoos!) On a hot day, misting stations & a great assortment of food, drinks, ices & ice cream keep you going. There's also mistfans by the boat rides, and a huge water fountain park to run through! (There used to be delightful fiberglass animals & Safari jeeps to take photos on. I hope they're just tucked away during renovations). The gift shops are well-stocked and you can buy happiness. (They just need to sell frames for your own selfies). This is an easy to get to, absolutely delightful way to spend a day for all ages. There's lots to see and do, and the animals can always put on a different show. Come EARLY in the day as the animals get hot too & tend to rest or retire in the...

Oh…. Lion Country Safari, I have watched your commercials on tv and radio ads thru out the years, why did it take me so long to come and see your beautiful Wildlife Preserve.

I live in Fort Lauderdale and Metro Zoo has always been my go-to place to take the kids. Then I thought to myself, change things up and travel North this time. Travel time is the same either way, about an hour and change. Bonus I was thinking in my head was - No Miami Traffic. So the kids and I set out to Lion Country Safari.

How incredible it was to drive thru Wide-Open Land and see all of God’s Creatures enjoying life. (Metro Zoo … who? )

All along the 4 mile stretch…. Lions, Rhinos and Zebras oh my!!!

Somewhere along the way, I missed the part of “Keep your windows closed” in the drive though preserve. In the distant we could see the ostriches with their huge eyes, long neck and full of feathers. We are excited as they began walking in our direction and with each step closer these birds appeared larger and larger.

The Ostriches (with no shame) walked right up to our vehicle – full of curiosity. In full transparency our windows were three quarters up and they begin pecking at the windows. Startled the heck out of us.

After the wildlife preserve, we made our way inside to the Safari Park. Very nice and then we came across Safari Splash Pad and Safari Falls of which the kids made a bee-line clothes and all. I never thought to bring bathing suits. The kids were having the best time playing in the water.

(again.. I say Metro-Zoo who)

While there was a lot more areas to explore the kids never left the water area. Our time at Lion Country Safari was excellent.

All joking aside with regards to my (Metro-Zoo Who comment). I do very much enjoy both Parks.

Metro Zoo is the more Traditional and Lion Country Safari is a more intimate safari-style adventure each earning praise.

Whether you are a Local or Visiting in Palm Beach, Lion Country Safari is well worth the drive. Just remember to roll up those windows, grab your camera, and watch out for those...
