This trail may be accessed at no charge, subsequent to paying the entry fee for Shenandoah National Park, within which the trail runs. The trail runs about a mile or so down to the first set of falls, which is as far as I personally went. It is reasonably accessible to casual trail users, the only unfortunate exception being it does not have access for those who are non-ambulatory. I recommend a decent middle-of-the-road hiking shoe at minimum, as even with the old wooden steps to help, the trail can be uneven and variable in its surface, sometimes having rocks or other minor trip hazards. Also worth knowing, it has several noticeable declines on the way in, which can amount to a slightly more challenging ascent on the way out, so a steady pace is advisable. The view itself is stunning - I found it very moving and serene, notwithstanding the considerable number of fellow trail users that day (not crazy busy, but hardly lonely). Beautiful clear, cold water just below the falls where I dipped my hand, and plenty of pretty incidental vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains and beyond along the path. Go there, enjoy it and...
Read moreIt’s a moderate hike to the fall but returning back to car park is a little difficult as when you are hiking almost down and a little bit of up but while coming back , it’s mostly hiking up n up . We saw beautiful mommy and baby dear grazing together. The waterfall was beautiful But a little crowded but I found a spot and relaxed there for sometime. But suddenly my partner noticed the upper side and climbed to the upper side of the fall. And when we reached there it was serine!! One or two were there and after they left we got the whole place to ourselves and it felt like Devine meadow . We spent an hour there sitting , relaxing , listening to the fall sound . I slipped and hurt my left hip even after being careful hence being careful Is not sufficient always . It is a beautiful spot you should miss if you are...
Read more.75 miles down to the base of the largest falls along the entire trail. The trail down from the lot follows the spring fed creek, very pretty short hike. For someone who is out of shape, the challenge will be coming back up. Lots of places along the trail are larger steps and slick rock. I do not recommend this trail with small children, although there were many on the hike. Go early to avoid the midday crowds. Since it is the shortest hike to a scenic waterfall in the park, it's also the most crowded. This is one of the trails in the park that do not allow dogs, only service animals. This hike is rated moderate- strenuous and it is, coming back up. Lots of small rocks and stones to climb over and around. It was a fun experience. Take water and a...
