Very humbling experience to think about how the mounds were build by hand. It was a beautiful Georgia day on the day we visited. I couldn't help but imagine walking up the side of these mounds with baskets of clay to build these mounds. That had to be brutal even on the nicest of days. From the largest mound I recommend looking up hill to see the replica of one of the four corner watch towers for Fort Benjamin Hawkins that sits on the hill above watching over the mounds. Hint hint a sign on the mound would be helpful for visitors that are completely unaware and will never realize it is up there. I recommend a visit there also to complete...

A great experience at the top of the mound. There are some stairs but not too bad. It is not wheelchair or stroller accessible to the top. We opted to walk from the visitor center and the walk wasn't bad. You can also drive close to the bottom and then walk up. Short walk from the visitor center. You can climb the steps to go to the top of the mound and enjoy the impressive views from the top. Several trails by this mound. Worth visiting if you are the area to learn about the history of these mounds. Watch the video at the visitor center.
