Very humbling experience to think about how the mounds were build by hand. It was a beautiful Georgia day on the day we visited. I couldn't help but imagine walking up the side of these mounds with baskets of clay to build these mounds. That had to be brutal even on the nicest of days. From the largest mound I recommend looking up hill to see the replica of one of the four corner watch towers for Fort Benjamin Hawkins that sits on the hill above watching over the mounds. We opted to walk from the visitor center and the walk wasn't bad. You can also drive close to the bottom and then walk up.
