Capital Springs Recreation Area — Attraction in Madison

First off, this isn't a deep-woods, solitary type of place to go where you won't see other folks. However, it's camping in the Madison area that allows easy access to the city as well as great bike/hike/walking trails and wonderful lakes. The bike/pedestrian trails connect to the series of trails into and out of Madison and nearby towns, with many, many miles of different ways to go and types of landscapes to see. I haven't skied there, but the trails look like they'd be great on cross-country skis with a lot of distance and options if you cross over into the 9-springs area as well. Pros: Nice course that is well maintained and has good signage. Beautiful place to play with short but mostly long prairie grass and surrounded by farm and wet lands. Pretty good mix of short and long holes.

Cons: With the long grass it can be pretty easy to lose a disc. But worst of all are the bugs. They are everywhere and are vicious!! That being said...
