A great place to learn about the history and culture of the three tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation. A short film introduces you to the way life of the native tribes. It is interesting to learn how the tribes gathered their food and hunted for game based on the different seasons of the year. You will find an interesting exhibit on the preservation of ancient Pictographs and Petroglyphs. The struggles of the tribes are presented as the non-native people started to settle in Oregon and forced treaties to move the natives off their lands. The boarding schools were created to assimilate the tribes and deny their culture and way of life. A number of other exhibits explain the culture and stories of the tribes. Located near the Indian Head Casino on Highway 26 about thirteen miles from Madras. A nice place to spend an afternoon learning about the history, culture, struggles and the present state of the Warm Springs, the Wasco and the Paiutes tribes.

The exhibits were very interactive and unique. They didn't require reading little plaques like other museums, most sections had audio and lights that corresponded to what was on display. It made learning about the tribes' history easy and interesting, even my kids were able to pay attention and got something unforgettable out of it. The art and belongings are amazing, especially the modern art in the rotating gallery. It's a nice drive from both Portland or Bend, so if you visit Oregon it's well worth the stop.

A good place to visit and learn some additional Oregon history if you are in the area or as a stop during a road trip. It describes with great detail and artifacts the lives of the people who have been living in the area for hundreds of years, and how their lives have changed. Despite the adversity, traditions have been kept alive. The short videos throughout the museum are worth watching.

A must see!

Having just moved to the area, I wanted to learn more about the people indigenous to the Oregon high desert--the Museum at Warm Springs was the perfect place to get a first-rate introduction to the history and cultures of the Warm Springs, Wasco, and Northern Paiute tribes.

The permanent exhibit, though installed in the 1990s, provides a timeless multimedia interpretive experience and is FULL of beautiful artifacts and works of art. As other reviewers have mentioned, the building itself is very thoughtfully designed to incorporate motifs that appear in basket weaving. It was very cool to leave the museum with increased appreciation for and ability to recognize some aspects of the visual culture of the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs.

My friend and I spent a great 3 hours enjoying the exhibits and chatting with the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

If you are traveling this way, do yourself a favor and stop by--I know I'll be back to visit their...

nice museum, exceeded my expectations a little. I generally give museums 5 stars if they are worth stopping at, or exceed expectations. A lot of great bead work here. The wedding ceremony exhibit was really well done.

I've been to a lot of museums and I've seen a lot of baskets and watched a lot of videos. I never get tired of little miniatures and dioramas tho. the wickiups were nice. I like maps a lot, would love to see a map of the different tribal territories and settlement areas maybe more visuals on what the food at the salmon ceremonies looked like or how it was prepared.

would like to see more about how baskets are made, maybe more about the different diets and native plants utilized by the...
