📍 Great Salt Lake Visitor Center Address: 13312 W 1075 S, Magna, UT 84044 Phone: (801) 828-0787 Hours: Typically open daily from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM (subject to seasonal changes) Located within: Great Salt Lake State Park

⛵️🛶🚤⚓️The Great Salt Lake Visitor Center is a small but very informative stop that adds tremendous value to your visit to the Great Salt Lake. It’s the perfect place to begin your exploration of this unique natural wonder.

The exhibits inside the center cover a wide range of topics — from the lake’s unusual salinity and the ecosystem it supports (think brine shrimp and migratory birds) to the fascinating geological and human history of the area. It gives important context about the shrinking water levels and ongoing environmental concerns, making you appreciate the lake even more.

🧑‍🏫 Staff & Experience: The rangers and staff are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions. They often share fun facts or personal insights that help bring the lake’s story to life.

🖼️ Highlights: • Educational displays and 3D maps • Interactive exhibits for all ages • Short videos about the lake’s formation and wildlife • Panoramic windows with a view of the lake • Nearby shaded picnic area and clean restrooms

📸 Pro Tips: • It’s a great place to stop for a quick overview before taking a boat tour or walking along the shoreline. • The visitor center also offers useful updates on trail conditions, water access, and lake safety. • Be sure to check out the gift shop, which features souvenirs, local guidebooks, and cold drinks.

While the visitor center isn’t very large, it is thoughtfully laid out and highly educational. Whether you’re a tourist or a Utah local, this stop gives you a deeper appreciation for the unique environment of the...

Great Salt Lake Visitor Center is a must-visit spot if you’re in Utah! 🌅 The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, always eager to answer questions and provide insightful information about the lake's history and ecosystem. 🏞️ The views from the center are breathtaking, offering stunning panoramas of the lake and surrounding mountains. 🏔️ It's the perfect spot to learn about the unique features of the Great Salt Lake, from its high salinity to the wildlife it supports, like brine shrimp and migratory birds. 🦩 You can also find exhibits explaining the lake’s significance to Native American culture and its role in Utah's economy. 🚣‍♀️ Whether you're a nature lover or just curious, the center offers something for everyone. We went to the visitor center and surrounding lake around the end of August, and let's just say.....we never expected the huge amount of literal clouds of brine flies.

If you see the pictures I've attached, they talk about it inside the visitor center, but when you're traveling through multiple states, it is kind of the last thing you'd expect when you're just wanting to do a quick stop on this cool looking salt lake hahaha. So, BEWARE flies everywhere from summer to the beginning of fall.

Additionally, my gosh, the smell was horrid! But as seen on the picture I attached is also normal so....overall I think that all things considered you should at least go! Won't hurt, and you'll have seen the big salt water lake!...
