I would definitely recommend reading a few reviews before hiking at this location. We got things figured out before we left, but it would have gone better had we done our homework first.
We paid our $12 (mistake #1) and we were excited to get moving, so we initially took the "trail" right behind the signage near the parking kiosk. This path was steep, overgrown and somewhat dead-ended us into a steep, muddy creek embankment which we did not want to try to navigate.
We figured we did something wrong and read a few reviews with the bar or two of connectivity we had. This is how we learned the correct path to take was back down the parking lot, along the PCH for 40 yards or so and then into the wild.
