Floating the Ouachita is a wonderful experience. I’ve floated it now three times over the past few years.
We’ve floated it on inflatable Stand-Up Paddleboards twice and now once in a tube. The trip from Remmel Dam to the Whitewater Park in Rockport takes about 3 hours during recreational flows. Get on Entergy’s mailing list to get email updates on when they are releasing water for recreation.
We’ve seen bald eagles on the past two trips down the river. Sorry the picture isn’t better!
The whitewater park itself is a nice place with pavilions, great walking paths, a ramp, plenty of little swimming areas you can find, the rapids area, and restrooms.
The biggest problem is that the park restroom’s specifically appear to not be well maintained. There was graffiti present and it was the kind of place you needed to hold your breath to go into. There also seems to be an issue with trash and animal waste in the area. People aren’t picking up after themselves and the park isn’t employing people to deal with that issue when it occurs.

When we dropped off our car at noon there were cars parked every where but no people. It was very busy in the late afternoon by the water and all over the parking lot. The lot was full of people, tubes, vehicles. This is a popular spot to take out on a float. When you get out you can exit to the left before the white water if you choose. My kids and I get washed down the river and a stranger calls 911 my kids are all under the age of 10 so thank god for them wearing life jackets but the damn was opened and it all filled up in a matter of minutes it was the worst experience of my life and we are all traumatized from this experience I think I will wear a life jacket for the rest of my life even sitting in...
