Heart Lake — Attraction in Mammoth Lakes

This review is for Heart Lake Trail which was a 2.4 miles round trip that took 1.5 hour to complete.

This was one of the easiest and less crowded hike in Mammoth Lake. Trail was mostly a steady incline on dirt and rock. Stunning views of the nearby mountains, forest, wildflowers and lakes! At the end of the trail, walk a little further towards the edge for a distant view of Arrowhead Lake.

It's a great little hike. There is elevation to climb for most of the way up to the lake, but it's done with multiple switch backs, keeping the incline pretty reasonable. At the top you are greeted with a calm, shallow lake that begs to be swam in (in warmer months). Wildflowers are a bloom in June.

It would make a great fall hike as you have to go through a grove of aspen...

A short hike leaves out of Coldwater campground. You walk past the old Mammoth Consolidated mine through a lodgepole pine forest one mile to the lake. The lake is pretty but be sure to continue up the hill beyond the lake to stunning views of Mammoth, Lake Mary and...
