Beautiful tranquil place to visit. We visited the north end at first and took the board walk to the viewing area. The volunteer there had a telescope set up and let us view an osprey nesting with her chicks, which were on one of the tufa towers in the lake. The volunteer was very friendly and informative. Then we went to the south side of the lake and took a little swim in the lake at Navy Beach. The water was very slippery feeling and of course very salty. Modern playground and picknik tables scattered around large shady, grassy areas. Popular wedding venue. Highly recommend a pit stop here, very peaceful. (Just watch the kiddos, a lion and a mama bear frequent the willows.) Edited June 2025. The Inn fire burned through the grounds here, destroying most of the willows and many of the old cottonwoods. Restrooms were some of the best we have ever encountered at a public park, clean and well supplied. The boardwalk takes you to the edge of the water up close and personal with the columns of minerals left behind after the water level dropped when water was diverted to supply Las Angles some years ago.
