Skelton Lake — Attraction in Mammoth Lakes

This 12 surface acre beautiful alpine lake sits at an elevation of 9,924 feet above sea level. We really enjoyed our time on the western shore of Skelton Lake where there is a wonderful natural beach to just relax after hiking from the Duck Pass Trailhead up to this wonderful place. It is at the 1.6 mile mark just to the left of the main trail. Our two chocolate labs and our hiking buddies Summer and Skye really liked cooling off and getting a fresh drink of water in the crystal clear water. This is my favorite day hike In mammoth. It takes me about an hour to get to skelton, then i set up my hammock and relax for a few hours before returning to my family in town. I do it every summer. There are quite a few other great lakes on the trail (arrowhead, emerald are pretty gorgeous) but skelton has so many great places to sit and take it all in.
